Cannot Flash My Sam Ms28 Drive.
« on: December 03, 2006, 12:14:00 PM »

Hi!

I've got an XBOX 360 Premium yesterday, Manufactured: 2006-06-20, and it has a SAMSUNG MS28 drive.

I have this motherboard on my PC:
ASUS P4P800 Deluxe with the ICH5 SATA chipset (compatible with the MKTFLASH what I see).

Today I decided to flash my drive.

I downloaded the Commodore4eva's Xtreme firmware 4.2A/B Rev.1 for TS-H943 Xbox 360 and X360SAM 0.6.

I disassembled the XBOX 360 and connected the drive to my PC's first SATA port (Primary/Master).

I did a bootable MS-DOS floppy disk, and moved over the xtrem42a.bin and the xtrem42b.bin file to the floppy disk, and I also moved all the files from X360SAM 0.6 to the floppy disk. OBS! I move the hacked firmwares to the SAMSUNG folder as it says in the readme.

I started up the PC and when I came to the command prompt I started up the Xbox 360.

I booted up with the floppy, then I typed:
SAMREAD XXXXXXX YYYYY

Then it writes out this, 3 times:
Directory already exists

Then MKTFLASH starts
and I can choose between like:
 1. ICH5 Sec Master
 2. ICH5 Sec Slave

I choose for example ICH5 Sec Master and then It writes out:
efa0 (Master/Slave): a0

Nothing happens so I press ESC and then It comes:
 Status: 51 Should be: 70.
Err

Sometimes the PC doesn't find the drive.

What's the problem? Plz, what should I do to flash my drive?

Best regards, xarph.

Hm, I have the VIA VT6410 RAID controller on my motherboard.

It says this in the manual:

Storage:
     Supported by South Bridge (ICH5R)
       - 2 x UltraDMA100 support for 4 drives
       - 2 x Serial ATA with RAID 0 function
Supported by VIA 6410 RAID controller
       - 2 x UltraDMA 100 support for 4 drives with RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1 and RAID JBOD

What I can see I have the VT6410 RAID controller, but It doesn't support SATA on the controller. Or?

No, your motherboard does not support. The SATA chipset is ICH5. The VIA 6410 is a IDE raid controller, not SATA. You need a VIA SATA chipset ...

I have 2 p4p800's. The IDE controller is Intel. I used a different computer to flash with a SATA card.
Also, you only need one firmware, 4.2a, or 4.2b, on the floppy or you will run out of space when hacked.bin is created, which took a long time for me. Thought it got stuck.

Edit: you have p4p800, or p4p800se?

I too have p4p800se which is ich 5 chipset.
Below I will post a link that tells you step by step what to do for this board, many have said it helped...

to mod this ms28 drive you have 2 options

1. no soldering - YOU MUST have a via sata controller card 6421 I believe it is that everyone uses...then do the 10 sec trick or bad flash method

2. VCC trick (removal of resistor) FOR ALL other chipsets ICH, NFORCE, SIL you must do the vcc way.

Here is the link for the VCC way with this p4p800 motherboard (ICH5)
the timing is critical in this method with this motherboard setup.  Once you do it you got it though.
