tongue.gif ). but i have just seen those screenshots and im amazed that a couple of people have picked up on surreal.

i apologise if this has been covered in another topic previously, but is there an overall compatibility increase, or have currently working games been improved upon?

I dont see how it would help any resources. A new xbe is launched when starting the game, so the resources the UI takes has nothing to do with the game.

Mame-x anyone? This isnt a new concept.

sleeping.gif , as freakdave says, it is a matter of opinion, I don t find this menu ugly (I find it more pretty than the original actually), as for why it is done :
-> Lantus, you must know how shitty it was to integrate a sub menu (I was the only one to do it with surreal xxx so I know what I am talking about)
-> after some times activating the menu, the emu crashed in mario 64, now there is no problem (it crashed in 1964, I will see that)
-> I don t have the 1-2 seconds reaction to enter the menu, that s a big progress (even if it has not necessarely something to see with the menu itself)

After all, if ppl are not happy with it :
-wait for "surreal 2"
-do it yourself

I am becoming really mad to see always same ppl criticizing.

Sure Surreal's UI has some pretty icons and a little hand that points to things, but it doesn't support screenshots, which is a shame because that always makes any UI look much much nicer. Where the screenshot should be we instead have a big box filled with info about how many Mb the ROM is and other such useless stuff.
the original ui is awesome. it shows the whole nintendo atmosphere in one skin/ui with that great box-art. imho, its the greatest ui that could be ever made for a nintendo 64 emulator.

Then there are the boxshots, which seem like a good idea at first until you realise that many games cannot be easily identified from a tiny picture of their box. Not to mention the fact that most japanese games don't have boxshots in the first place, and adding them yourself isn't as user friendly as it might have been. But fortunately you can use list mode instead... except that the emu insists on listing ROMs by their Goodtools name rather than what you've named the file yourself so many names, especially jap ones, are totally inaccurate (this has always bugged me when using Goodtools utilities).

youre able to rename all roms with your own preferred name. browse to the n64 directory on your hdd. edit the surreal.ini with notepad. each game has an alternate title which you can use to give them your own names. afterwards you have to clear the n64 savedirectory so surreal reload the modified surreal.ini file.
test it.
