Hitachi V0078fk Alteritive
« on: December 02, 2006, 02:12:00 PM »

I am pretty new to all  this so bear with me plz

I have just purchased a 360 with the Hitachi v0078FK firmware (bummer).
I have been reading up on the hole situation regarding this firmware, I know
any day soon they will have it sorted but can anybody Help or guide me if this will work,

I have a Xbox 360 with a Hitachi DVD with firmware v0078fk
I have purchased a brand new Hitachi DVD replacement thatÂ’s got the v47d firmware on
Is it posse able to fit my 360 with the Hitachi v47d DVD-ROM and completely replace my  Hitachi v0078fk DVD-ROM.
I know all the process of the key and Hex editing it back in the the firmware so it will read it.
I know in theory it should work, but i need some input on the Pros and cons of this precede from you guys

Iam all ears

only way right now is to desolder the chip and use an external programmer to read the key.  There is NO software way to dump the firmware off the drive.

i understand what you  mean but what i am saying is

if i take the Hatachi dvdrom (0078FK) out of the machine compleatly untouched
and fit a compleatly new hatachi dvdrom (47d)

so do i still need to get the key off the drive (0078RK),
to edit it into the firmware, on the new (47d).
If so is there any other way of gettting that key

Yes, you need the key of the 0078FK drive.
How?

as others have said , there is absolutly no way to get the key from the drive without removing the chip and reading it in a programmer.

there are people doing the 078fk drives.  and what you say is entirely possibly, but only really worth it in a scenario where you have totally butchered the 078 drive when removing the chip.

but yes, remove the chip, dump the firmware. get key from firmware, paste key into dumped firmware from the hitachi 47 . then you would also have to edit the 47`s firmware to report as a 078 drive to avoid e66  from any updates.

all this is alot of work, more work than just modding the 078 drive in the first place.

i`m sure theres someone reliable in your country that will do it. or try it yourself, all the info and equipment is availible.

just need big cajhones  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
