Specific Chipsets For Ms28?
« on: November 22, 2006, 07:22:00 AM »

Hey

I just want to clarify something to do with SATA chipsets..
For Samsung drives, VIA chipsets are required.. but is this only applicable for ms28 drives?
Tutorials would lead you to believe that ms25's also require certain chipsets, but at the same time, some people on this board make it sound like this is only the case for ms28's.

I have an ms25, and I bought what was meant to be a VIA VT6421l SATA card yesterday.
However, when I got it, it turned out to be an ALi M5283.

I was thinking of getting a refund; especially after the complaints I've heard about this card on this forum.

So I just want to know, is it okay to use this card, or any card for that matter, on an ms25? Or is it only VIA's?

Thanks

BTW, the title is supposed to say 'Specific Chipsets For Ms25?' !!

for ms28 via chipsets are essential for flashing without having to remove resistors (vcc method), making the bad flash recovery method possible (simple method). otherwise there are other chipsets you can use along with the vcc method.

for ms25 other chipsets can be used but mtkflash MAY have to be edited to be compatible with it.

I've got two SATA Cards here, both of which are not VIA.
One is Ali M8253 and one is probably Silicon Image or something (it's not opened).

Is it possible to flash my ms25 right now with one of these?

Thanks

Ok thanks.
Do you know where online is best to buy one of these? (Preferably shipped from the UK)
