Just to think, how will the Xbox read Dreamcast games since they are on GD-ROM discs? And since we can't backup Dreamcast games from a PC, how are you going to back them to CD-R (or DVD-R if possible)?

I can see a thread now: "I downloaded this game for Dreamcast & it won't run on the DC Emu....."

If you already downloaded the .iso/.cdi/.nrg image and burned a CD-R, extracting the data is a piece of cake, as a lot of folks on the scene have more DC backups than retails discs.

but yeah, I see what you mean about ripping original discs...

QUOTE

All of those games are trash with the exception of Devil May Cry, which I find quite tired now anyway. The first Gun Grave was good, but the sequel was horrible.

There is no acounting for taste...  Oh, and Rocketbilly Redcadillac would like a word with you about Gungrave Overdose.

QUOTE

Who gives a shit about Faggot Fantasy? As for GTA, we still get them and they look a hell of a lot better with no slowdown.

HURRR!!! YOU SAID FAGGOT FANTASY INSTEAD OF FINAL FANTASY...  U R FUNNY!!!11!

And as I said, GTA goes to the PS2 first.  Also, if you have not noticed, the xbox versions of the GTA games have the same models and texures as the PS2 version, so the only real benifit the Xbox versions get for waiting a year and 1/2 before gettting them is they they have better hardware anti-alisising, and have faster load times.

QUOTE

We have Mechassault, Steel Battalion, and Gun Griffon. Metal Gear Solid is horrible now, they should have stopped after the first, and part 2 was inexcusable.

And I am happy that "we" got those games.  I was talking about Metal Gear Solid 3, not 2.  MGS2 is on the Xbox as well, and MGS3 is worlds better than 2.

QUOTE

Gran Turismo? Surely you jest, with the advent of a more superior racer on the horizon; Gran Turismo will go the way of the dinosaur. Check out Forza, and try the demo as well, you won't touch GT again.

Forza looks like it has promise, but I haven't gotten the demo yet.  We will see how it does agenst Grand Turismo 4 very soon.

QUOTE

ICO never really interested me, I found it rather boring to be honest. Rez was horrible on PS2, you should try the superior Dreamcast version, the way it was meant to be played.

ICO is a master piece of a game and I am very much looking forward to Wanda and the Colossus which is being done by the same team.  I have played the Dreamcast version of Rez as well and it is not superior, it is the exact same game.

QUOTE

Socom? That name seems to escape me after playing a few games of Ghost Recon 2 wink.gif.

Is this some kind of pissing contest?  I am not trying to say that there are not good games on the Xbox, or that the PS2 has the best games, or that the PS2 is the only system worth owning.  I am saying that there are plenty of good games on the PS2 that ARE NOT on the Xbox, and will never be on the Xbox.  If you have to tell yourself that the PS2 sucks and all the people who own one are gay to feel better about your console purchase, then you are only hurting yourself limiting the amount of games that you are going to play.

QUOTE
Another RPG?

Xbox has always had a weak exclusive RPG library.  This is largely due to the poor sales of Xboxes in Japan, which is where most RPGs are sold.  Although it's first dibs on the Starwars Knights of the Old Republic series is a good thing.

QUOTE
Did you mean Ninja Gaiden? wink.gif.

No, I didn't mean Ninja Gaiden, you flaming fanboy.  If I had ment Ninja Gaiden, I would have said Ninja Gaiden.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Ninja Gaiden, but it is no more of a replacement and subsitute for Onimishua than 'Band of Brothers' is a substitue for 'Saving Private Ryan'.  It's ok to like both.

You must live in some land were it is illegal to own more than one console.

All that said, I am finished derailing thise thread.  Continue with the Dreamcast Emulation talk.

Not played it with a vga box have you?

It does look a lot nicer on the DC (And yes I do have a DC and a PS2 and Rez for both) using the VGA box a real pity it was never ported to the xbox and I'm absolutely certain even if chankast is ported to the xbox it will be unplayable (To timing sensitive).

Speed?
Compatibility?

If these two bits of information prove disappointing, then the port will be more interesting oddity than emulator.  (And how many releases and months would we have to wait before we can play a game the way it was meant to be played?)

As a gamer, I'll get excited when we hear how it's performing.
(Though from a technical standpoint, I'm still impressed with the accomplishment.)

Compatability will probably be half reasonable if the win32 version is anything to go by, providing they have reduced the memory requirements.

Win32 Chankast is pretty fast but I doubt it can be so fast as to work consistently speedy on xbox-level comparitivly retarded hardware, even with all the optimisations in the world. Dreamcasts are practically free anyway so anyone who complains about the speed when it comes out will get laughed at, I imagine.

well it runs prety well on a p3 with 128mb ram i got a p3 500 with 512 ram works good.

Might work ok on xbox since we have the cpu power but mem wise 64 megs of ram might do us in.

Unless we all go do the 128MB ram mods.

Nothing will cure the insatiable lust for a new emulator by the noobs. Nothing will change that unless Iriez implements a 1,2,3 strikes you're out system in the emulation forum. I think that would fix alot of the problems around here. Enough projects have been delayed, or cancelled by the ingrates.
