Okay, I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong here, so kindly let me explain the situation. It's quite possible that someone who knows more about Neogenesis than I do can answer this with ease. Before the flaming starts, yes, I've read the faqs, yes, I've thoroughly searched the message boards. I haven't seen anything relating to this problem, so if it's there, I apologize. It's not for lack of looking.
I am using an Xbox version 1.1, with an Xecuter 2.3b modchip. I have put neogenesis on a cd-r, along with some homebrew roms. It boots just fine, and runs all of the roms on the disc perfectly; no problems there.
However, the problems occur when I tell it to run a Sega CD. After booting into Neogenesis, I can eject my drive, put in a real original Sega CD game, and close it. Then I tell it to 'launch inserted CD', and it goes to the 'loading' screen and spins up the drive...but it never actually runs the game.
It does this with every Sega CD game I own.
The drive itself is a modified samsung 616t, which ordinarily reads all media types with no problem, but could that be an issue? It plays the redbook soundtracks from the discs with no problem, so I believe it is capable of physically reading the discs.
Is it a problem stemming from running Neogenesis from a cd-r? As in, will the Sega CD function work ONLY when Neogenesis itself is run from the HDD?
(I am quite familiar with .bin and .cue and .mp3 and .iso and fully aware of the way they are used, but I'm trying to actually play the games from the original CDs without having to waste HDD space ripping them.)
If anyone else has had this problem, or has a suggestion I can try to remedy the situation, I would truly appreciate any help. I'm just looking for a nudge in the right direction. Thanks.
