No Drive Detected... Tried Everything
« on: November 18, 2006, 12:35:00 PM »

I've tried absolutely everything, but MTKFlash doesn't find my drive. I've spent a solid day doing this.

Samsung MS25
VIA VT6421A PCI adapter
Windows says it's successfully installed
Tried every single MTKFlash configuration there is.
Tried all timing tricks
Tried PCI card in different place
Tried using the little black cable instead
Tried floppy, and harddrive
Tried unplugging and disabling everything else

Couldn't make my own MTKFlash configoration because MSInfo32.exe shows different information to the tutorials (perhaps because I'm on Windows 98). It just shows the IO ranges.

I can't use Xtreme boot maker because I'm on 98 either.

Any help? Does MTKFlash not work on windows 98? Is there a way of making your own MTKFlash for Windows 98?

and for those who just say "get XP", I use a laptop as my main PC, but obviously that won't work with a samsung, so I'm forced to use my old heap of shit PC. It has a Fujitsu Intel 810 motherboard (I think) if that helps.

Thanks.

You can try using this MTKFlash then hex-editing in the I/O ranges.  The VEN/DEV ID are already correct, so it just needs the I/O numbers that you said you do get when you run MSINFO32.

It's the I/O numbers I couldn't get, it only lists ranges.

I narrowed it down to the BIOS, by seeing if Windows would recognise my CDRW plugged in to the PCI card's IDE port. After trying all the BIOS combinations, I finally got it working. Because my PC is so damn old its BIOS  lacked anything to do with serial, ATA, SATA or RAID.

God knows what I've done to my PC, but it worked tongue.gif Thanks for the help (and the tut). Especially the people on #fw who helped me.
