How Can I Tell If My Drive Is In Mode B?

I'm trying to do backups now. The drive is flashed with the latest and plays backups fine(friends) but I can't backup my games.  I've followed all of the instructions and tried different methods but Windows usually freezes or hangs in explorer.  I put the 0800 disk in(burn to DVD DL) and I think I wait long enough(What is spin up, should it be a lot of what?) and then eject, boot into windows and put the original dvd in. Nothing, any ideas?

When you try to hit the eject button, you have to hit it two times to get it to open.

Wow you're helpful. If that were the case he would have mentioned it. Regardless it doesn't work.
