My dad ordered me this one http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2-X-SATA-150-1-X-U...1QQcmdZViewItem
and it will work because it has the VIA VT6421L chipset. Correct?

Yep sure will, mine had same chipset VT6421L and it worked like a dream...  no soldering required on the DVD drive at all   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I used this video tutorial to flash the drive, very easy to follow from start to finish..

my biggest concern is that i did the VCC trick wiring already so now what do i do? Keep the wires connected or apart?
Also it doesnt seem to matter if i even have the SATA cable hooked up it still shows the Xtreme pri master drive.. so is it even finding it?

Anyone have a link where I can grab the recommended SATA card driver? I got the same one everyone has, but I don't have a driver disk. Can someone help, I'm on my 2nd 360 returned the first one due to being a hitachi drive ! *wanted a samsung* got a samsung ! but found out its ms28!!

@markland,  I would seriously just invest in the VIA card.  I've flashed probably around 20 MS28's using a VIA chipset with no problems.  I've never had to do the VCC trick, and I'm glad it's staying that way.

I did everything correctly according to the tutorial given, when I run mtkflash on the first test it doesn't freeze up on detecting drives, it gives me 2 options 1 - IDE Master 2 - VIA 6421L am I doing this incorrectly?

Oh right, I forgot.  I saw VCC and just assumed you had some other chipset.  I've flashed over two dozen MS28 drives and have never had a problem.  I wish I could help you more, sorry.

If ur using the VIA PCI card you may need to add the option /SATA

mtkflash r /m /sata ORIG.BIN

this works for me..

Hey guys. I just bought the VIA card recommended here. I am having a strange error when I try to flash.

I have a ms25 which I backed up the orig.bin fine. I did a bad flash to x41a. That gave me a dead drive so I got the card.

I have used both the hex-edited mtkflash of this tut and the auto-edited mtkflash off xtreme boot maker.

I disable all ide and sata, decect my drive fine, but when I try the 10 seconds trick I get

status = ff, should be 70.

I get this error even when I do not power off my xbox at the drive select screen. I know I should be getting a status 51. The only time I get a status 51 is when I do the same method but trying to flash from my nforce4 chipset on my mobo.

what could be causing this error?

Please help.

Thanks

Hm, I have the VIA VT6410 RAID controller on my motherboard (ASUS P4P800 Deluxe)

It says this in the manual:

Storage:
Supported by South Bridge (ICH5R)
- 2 x UltraDMA100 support for 4 drives
- 2 x Serial ATA with RAID 0 function
Supported by VIA 6410 RAID controller
- 2 x UltraDMA 100 support for 4 drives with RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1 and RAID JBOD

What I can see I have the VT6410 RAID controller, but It doesn't support SATA on the controller. Or?

Will this work to flash the SAMSUNG MS28?

Have you disabled everything in your BIOS?  ie.  IDE and SATA Ports, RAID, etc...

If it doesnt support SATA then no..

You should have SATA Ports on the actual cards.
