Hi there,

Does anyone know where I can find the DOS files to make my bootable USB drive?  I've got the HP Bootmaker utility, just need the files...

Any help would be much appreciated  biggrin.gif

The 100% Correct Way To Flash A Ms28
« Reply #137 on: December 24, 2006, 01:33:00 PM »

Hi all.. New to xbox360 hacking, but have hacked many a xbox1..  Of course my first try at a 360 would have to be with a ms28 samsung drive..

So I was having similiar problems to other people and I think that depending on the make of your motherboard you cannot have the xbox360 powered on with the samsung connected to your data card.  I am using a via pci SATA card and if I have the samsung connected to the via and the xbox powered on when I power up my desktop machine the VIA bios complains that it cannot read the drive.  Then when I run mtkflash it never finds the drive.

I also have the issue where if I leave the xbox powered off, power up my desktop, then turn on the xbox with the SATA connected I get the DOS error about a buffer overflow.  I was able to add stacks=64,512 into my config.sys and this got rid of the stacks overflow error, but DOS still hangs when the 360 is powered on with the samsung drive connected to the Sata card.

I messed around with different combinations from what other people have posted and this is what worked for me-

1)  Leave atleast 1 IDE DVD-rom drive connected in my machine.
2)  XBOX 360 is powered on. SATA cable is connected to Samsung drive but not connected to VIA SATA card.
3)  Power on desktop machine, boot into DOS.
4)  Connect SATA cable to VIA SATA card.
5)  Run the mtkflash-via.exe r /m /sata orig.bin (if I did not use the mtkflash modified for the via chipset it would not detect the samsung drive).
6)  You will be prompted for which DVD drive to read, if I did not leave atleast 1 other DVD drive connected it would skip this menu and the process would not work(or atleast I could not get the timing right).  Turn off the xbox360.
7)  Select the VIA SATA drive, and immediately turn on the xbox360.

It will read out the firmware into orig.bin, and as soon as mtkflash is completed DOS hangs.

So bottom line, I think the issues people are having have to do with how the motherboard/SATA VIA card handle the xbox360 being turned on/off with the SATA cable connected.  It freaks mine out...  But after reading through all of the posts and trying different combinations of what worked for other people I was able to find something that worked for me.  I could only turn on the xbox360 with the sata connected once MTKFlash had started looking to read the drive.  Having 1 other ide drive connected helped me avoid any weird timing issues as I can tell it when I want it to start reading the drive.

I'm using an Asus P4TE motherboard with the Creative I/O SATA Raid card(SY-VIA-150R).

Sorry but what is your question?   do games slow down durring game play? and is this related to xtreme 5.0 or all firmwares??

if this is your question... I have no clue what you are talking about or what you "heard"

the disk spins lets say FASTEST when reading...durring heavy LOADS such as large detailed video or gameplay that uses the disk alot  the disk will or may read at full speed... then the disk will slow down durring times of low loads..  such as most gameplay..  the disk does not need to spin as much as much of the files have already been "loaded"   if that makes sense...

SOME games have a tendency to "lag" or slow down I guess you can say because of these LARGE LOADS and/or sub par burn or media.   If the media is cheap and/or the burn is not good enough or a combo of both.. you will see lag because of the time the drive takes to try to find the stuff it needs on the disk...
you will see this in LOADING SCREENS ... some games take longer to load off of backup then original disks. it all depends on the drive, burner, media, & burner   and maybe 360 itself.

QUOTE(xboxexpert @ Nov 15 2006, 03:05 PM) *

Before anything I'd like to thank Grim187 from our XS Forums.  With that being said enjoy the tutorial!

First off I'll start by saying what you need for this to work.

VIA VT6421L IDE & Serial ATA RAID PCI Controller Card (I have heard of VT6421A's to work but this is what I'm using so this is what I have to recommend!)

Xbox 360 System (OPEN) and Xbox 360 Power supply.

A Computer with either a BOOTABLE USB Memory stick or a BOOTABLE floppy disk (I DON'T RECOMMEND USING A FLOPPY).  My bootable partition was FAT32 and it was booting to Windows ME DOS Prompt

On the BOOTABLE floppy/USB drive you must put Xtrem42b.bin, X360SAM.exe and an edited MTKFLASH.EXE & MTKFLASH.TYP which can be found (here)

Now that I got the items out of the way you need to boot to BIOS and DISABLE every single IDE/SATA Device you have (This is the easy way and bypass's the need to enter the computer with your hands and start pulling out IDE and SATA cables)

Now that you have the bios stuff disabled I'd like you to shut off the PC completely.  Bring the Xbox 360 over to the PC and plug it into a AC outlet so it can get power.  I'd like you now to unplug the SATA connector on the Samsung DVD Drive in the 360 leaving the Power connector plugged in.  Plug a SATA Cable into the 2nd SATA Connector on the PCI Card (the connector furthest from the back of the computer) long enough to reach the 360 Samsung Drive. DO NOT PLUG IN THE PCI CARD SATA TO THE XBOX SATA....YET

Boot the Computer to the Floppy/USB drive.  When your presented with A:\ type "mtkflash r /m orig.bin" (without the quotes of course) DO NOT HIT ENTER!!!

I want you now to Plug in the SATA Connector from the PCI Card into the 360 Samsung Drive.

Remove the RF Cover so you can tap the small power button to turn on the 360....Turn it on.

Here is the IMPORTANT PART your 360 doesn't have the AV Cable plugged in so its flashing red...thats fine but you MUST REMEMBER that there is a 3 second timeout in which you CANT hit the power button to shut off the system cause its got lag.  You must WAIT at least 5 seconds before you proceed after turning on the 360.

Now that you waited your 5 second timeout period I want you to go ahead and hit enter on the keyboard.  I want you to take NOTICE that it says detecting drives for a second and then proceeds. If you did so you should see it freeze while trying to find the drive in the 360...this is NORMAL since this is just a TEST.  Hit ESC on the keyboard and you should get a Status 51 Should be 80.  If you got this error we are okay to proceed

I'd like you to again type "mtkflash r /m orig.bin" but this time which you see it say detecting drives shut off the 360 EXACTLY at that MOMENT!  It should now be frozen where it was before but this time your 360 is off.

Heres the kicker!  Turn the 360 back on and it will start to read the MS28.

Now that we have that out of the way we will now type "x360sam orig.bin xtrem42b.bin hacked.bin" (Duh...with out the quotes)

It will proceed to create a hacked.bin BIOS image.  Now you will shut the PC and Xbox 360 off and Remove the SATA Connector from the 360 drive.  Repeate the steps above again up until the part where you type "mtkflash r /m orig.bin"  this time your going to type "mtkflash w /m hacked.bin" and do the same thing as before...shutting the 360 off right as its detecting the Samsung and turning it on after.

If all is done well you should have a Nicely hacked MS28 Drive with the newest (to date) Xtreme Firmware.

P.S - I'd also like to add that my finger once twitched and right when it started to flash I accidently shut the xbox off...woops to me!  I turned the xbox 360 back on and typed the command again and it proceeded to flash the drive with out doing anything out of the ordinary.
Sidenote:  This will not work with the Xecuter Connect Kit (You will always get Status 80 Should be 70)

I DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IF THIS IN ANY WAY SCREWS UP OR BRICKS YOUR SAMSUNG DRIVE.  THOUGH IT SHOULD NOT...STUPID STUFF SOMETIMES HAPPENS AND I WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THAT!

It works Flawlessly.... I used Samread/Samhack... Timing is very important... And I would suggest buying the VIA card... I have the NO RAID one but same chipset worked great... Good Luck and thanx very much for the tutorial

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!

i was sooo angry!

after when i installed the sata card and the driver, i was open the bootmaker but it didnt see the i/o.. and i was unable the read it from the msinfo, but i realized i just have to save the list (file>>save)and then just put it to the bootmaker's folder. the re run the detection and now its was able to read the info!!!!! gut!!! so i made the bootdisk with the 51c
then
unplugged the ide cables and sata cables ( i didnt do anything in the bios, only set the first boot device to usb)

start windows type mktflash r /m orig.bin (yes w/o /sata!!)
connect de sata to the pci card channel 1 (not channel2)
xbox on then hit enter
it said something: f800 and a0 or something
hit ESC

51 shoulb be 80

retype mtkflash r /m orig.bin
enter and turn off the box
wait a few sec then turn it back

saving the orig.bin and the rest is the same thing just is in the first post.

2nd connector means CN1 (channel i think...)

i talked to them again.. they said the xbox1 games have some slow down during the game

slow down means: drops the fps...

it was a missunderstanding... i thought they talkin about the xbox360 games...

When following the steps below i can read the firmware no prob at all, when i try to write it back i get the error err:fail to open input file

The only thin im doing that isnt mentioned it restarting the PC and the turning the 360 on after the read.

Any ideas? It's driving me mad!!!

I just flashed by DVD MS28 with Xtreme 4.2A using a VIA 2641A PCI CARD ($10 from Ebay)
I used Xtreme bootmaker and SAM360 like in the guide
1) First disconnect everything IDE and SATA from your PC
2) Connect XBOXDVD drive to the SATA1 (PRIMARY), on the PCI CARD thats connector on the side of the PCI, it is facing the front of the PC.
3) Power on PC and boot using Floppy / USB Disk made for Xtreme bootmaker
4) Power on XBOX360
5) Type 'SAMREAD XXXXXXX XXXXX' (where x is your serial number) and press 'ENTER'
6) A menu appears, Select the channel of the XBOX and power off XBOX360
7) Awaiting 10 sec
8) Power on XBOX360
9) Read firmware its loops 3-4 times before the process completes
10) Poweroff for XBOX
11) Type  'SAMHACK XXXXXXX XXXXX' (where x is your serial number) and press 'ENTER' repeat steps 6
 - 10

It have tried for many guides and different combination of SATA controllers.  Only this has work for me.

what are you asking for... I do not understand your question.

are you asking for links to the tutorial? (the tutorial is on page 1 post 1)

are you asking for links for the via 6421 sata card?  (just search google or ebay via 6421)

I got my new SATA card in the mail today.  It was the one recommended by a fellow Canadian on one of the previous pages.  Using the instructions on the first page, it wasn't hard all all to change the firmware.  I still think the hardest part is opening the case.

The card i used also had the "A" chipset not the "L".  I didn't need to disable my SATA ports in the bios, because the flasher didn't recognized my other ports anyways.

It wasn't too hard finding the hexedited version of the flasher either, just googled around for it.
