Dvd Key Extraction From Motherboard?
« on: November 15, 2006, 03:53:00 AM »

has anyone experimented with any of the chips on the motherboard to find the key? or is it possible to move the chip from one board to another to marry a drive on an overheating board to one with an unknown key? just trying to salvage a working system from bits and pieces i have accumalated during experimentation

afaik no1 has attempted any way of extracting the key from the chip on the mobo.

im guessing it would work if you removed the chip and soldered it onto another mobo, the way that the xbox1 eeprom chip could be.

Maybe a solution in the next year maybe...

As we know the fall update added in the dash the drive brand and firmware versions so in theory a key maybe nearby?

what? your post doesnt make sense. the fall update doesnt make the key available anywhere else on the console. the only places to find it are ont he mobo and in the dvd drive.

he's saying the new FALL Update obtained your DVD key from the dvd-drive and mobo and married your dashboard to it.   So basically, its in 3 places now.  Not 2 anymore.

Maxegg is correct....

Maybe this third way may allow us to access the mobo maybe not.

No, not really. it had nothing to do with the DVD key.

The Fall update checked to see if it had the correct hardware and/or firmware revision.

The key detection from mobo <-> DVD drive has always been the same from day 1.

exactly the other two seem to be misinformed. the fall update did not 'marry' anything. it was always maried hence why you could never just switch dvd drives without changing the key.

i suggest those two learn what they are pretending to know about, b4 posting rubbish on these forums. and the key is still in only 2 places in the console, on a chip on the mobo and on the drive itself.

Anyone know which chip on either the Motherboard or the DVD drive that contains the DVD key?

I may be able to use an external machine to read the key off the chip, I just need to know which chip I should be looking for.  The motherboard chip mainly, the DVD drive chip is less important.

Sorry to keep pinging on this, but I really need this info.  I will be desoldering the chip with key off the motherboard and then putting it in an external machine, then finding the key manually.  I may be able to fix bricked Xbox 360's with lost keys.

I dunno why you keep asking either.   AS OF RIGHT NOW NO ONE knows how to get the dvd key.  If it was as simple as removing a chip and reading it with a external programmer then it would have been done.   Don't you think there are people or companies for that matter out there that have already taken probably every chip off the board and tried reading them??

Plus if you think about it.. where is the dashboard?    where ever that resides is it possible the dvd key also resides?

Getting the key from the dvd drive was more simple because it is a 3rd party drive with their own components...  microsoft had nothing to do with the dvd drives security.. now if they made their OWN drives then they could have put their own securities on them...

now with the motherboard... it is microsofts security and the security is now HARDWARE based not just software...as the first xbox was.... making it alot more difficult to actually HACK.
Thats why there are those that say the 360 really has not been HACKED at all.. just the 360's DVD DRIVE has been.    HACK the 360 and you will probably be able to find the key  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I agree..
It would of been found by now if they could just get it of a chip...

I think the only way you will get round a so called bricked system where you have lost a key will be some kind of mod chip maybe but we can only wait and see
