You still need the key to 'save' the drive or even for a replacement. See if you can dump out the firmware in the drive? Even if you can, have to hope that the key is not corrupted in any ways ...

you can still buy a new mother board and dvd drive but it probably be cheaper to buy a new console by iteself with no other parts

If you don't have your unique key you are in trouble.

The only option i can think of is to De-solder the TSOP from the dead dvd drive and read it with some kind of chip reader and hope the key is still there. If so you can replace the drive.

Other then that you can hope some kind of way of learning the key from the motherboard can be found.
