Using Xbox For A Mame Cabinet...
« on: December 10, 2004, 03:59:00 PM »

looks like i'm about to buy a arcade cabinet from ebay  :beer:

Wanted to know if anyone has done this, and if so how. Using a J-pac seems the logical step to me. I can't decide between using a pc (i have a spare one soon) or the xbox, but I need a j-pac whichever way.

Yeah I built my own, here are some pics:

I am not done yet. I still have to repaint and install the top marquee.

I made it so I can use xbox, gc, or ps2.

How did you connect them all up?

I took apart a pelican universal arecade stick then wired it to my own arcade buttons (much better then using the ones from the arcade stick). All I have to do is change which system the controller is plugged into.

not sure how he did it but my guess would be he used something like this:

http://www.xgaming.com/byoarcade.shtml

This is what i am going to use, allows you to connect up Happs buttons/sticks (better than x-arcade ones) and connect it all (through adaptors,$14.95 each i think) to GC, PS2, Xbox, PC (comes with PC connectivity)
yeah i think they rock, fully programmable, can support multiple button configs etc... thay are the way to go imho if your gonna use consoles in your cab.

celinedrules:(nice cab btw) are those being run off an Xbox? just out of curiosity as i am about to start my Xbox cab project and am interested in seeing how other people have managed, got any tips (software/hardware wise) to share? like what emu's you find best...etc

im using this -->

http://www.ultimarc.com/xbox_adap.html

with the ps\2 ipac

its very nice cause you can just screw it onto the inside of your cab and will work for pc or xbox or anything...and it has passthrough keyboard support wich is nice and the "2 in 1" mode rox cause it makes your entire controll surface act like a big xbox controler with both sticks in use...fun for FPS games and racing games...

i use the ultimarc video amp also with my xbox -> monitor setup
