Problem Reading Ms28
« on: November 03, 2006, 07:45:00 AM »

I've read many ms28 roms before but on this drive i am getting the following message. Has anyone else got this or managed to fix the problem. The program just sits there on 00%

a:\> mtkflash r /m orig.bin
MTKFLASH by Joseph Lin, MTK 1998 (Ver 1.83c)

Port: 170, Master/Slave: a0

Flash Type : "SST(SST25VF040)(SERIAL)"

Reading......00%

looking at this it is detecting the wrong chip (sst39fs020A is the correct chip on the pcb). I can connect any other drive and flash no problem. Has anyone fiqured this problem out yet. It looks like i might have to buy a PLCC32 adapter and remove the chip to read/flash it.

Use Xtreme Boot Maker to make your MTKFlash.  It will apply Boke's hexedit for the listing of single devices.  Also, you need to include the /sata switch in your command, then follow the bad flash recovery method.

I have tried making a boot disk from xtremeboot with the modified mtkflash file etc, i have also tried the sata switch. I am using the onboard ICH5 chipset and have never had a problem with ms28's before and i have always used the vcc switch method. I cant try the 10sec method as i dont have a via chipset. Pretty stumped now. I have just spent the last 30 mins removing the epoxy resin on the chip and have ordered a plcc32 chip holder and will remove the chip from the pcb when it arrives to read in my labtool48. I would welcome any other ideas'

if it helps i have the exact same problem

this drive was flashed by me before, and it started giving e65... now it dont boot at all, and mtkflash reports this error while reading or writing...

i have some chips ill try replacing with, but it just seems weird it would do this for no reason...

it is not related to the boot maker or wrong command entered, its somethign with the chip/pcb

well got the drive working

removed the plcc cleaned up the solder  and popped it into the programmer and the chip id read ok... reprogrammed the chip then reinstalled and all was well...

it appeared there was a possible solder bridge that musta made contact once the 360 got hot enough...
