My original Xbox 360 had a Hitachi drive, but when I sent it back for repairs (the last dashboard upgrade screwed it up) it came back with a Toshiba/Samsung. Either it was a new console (which some people reported MS were doing - it did take just a day for them to fix it) or they changed the drive (can't see why they would).
oohem, try reading it again, you've got the wrong end of the stick.
dunno.. perhaps i read a bit too much into the firmguard thing but i have seen hundreds of people who bricked unmodified drives claim they had not had the spring update yet. We shall all know in a few days for sure, and perhaps then, you shall all see that i do in fact have the "correct" end of the stick.
regardless, i wouldn't play with fire on this one, if you haven't updated the spring update yet, don't do the fall.
Perhaps it has to do with when you modified in regards to the spring update, ie, before or after?
Who knows.
BTW when you send a 360 in for repair, if your 360 comes back with the same serial, its the same box. no sense changing that on a repair.
Just another note, its near impossible to avoid this update simply because there are tons of people who could care less about dashboard visual improvements, but im buying an hd-dvd drive and i would like the 1080p support.. this update is necessary for me.
