Sadly if you you already tried to update your brand new system before it looks like you're up for (another) swap/repair even before you could play your console for a sec.

Can someone elaborate this please? =) I try to twich it in my mind but perhaps for language reasons i'm not sure what this means. Thanks  wink.gif

Also got me confused...

I will have my HDD today so should I go on Live and get the update before I flash my drive... I have a Hitachi and will be using Maximus-Garyopa Hitachi-LG Xtreme FW v2.3 Stealth 8in1 Revision 2.

Ok so my question is for the people that have a MS25, FW 4.2 and successfully updated to the fall one, if I understand correctly, the 4.2 FW makes our drives "act" as a MS28 drive, correct? So now if we flash back to our original FW (MS25), will this affect us any?

Hope that made sense.

I'm new to xbox-scene and I don't know if this is the right tread for my question but it is Fall update related so here goes:

When I boot up my 360 I'm prompted to update my dashboard but after the update is downloaded I get an error message (no number) saying that the update could not be installed and I should try again or go to www.xbox.com/support. I've tried downloading the update sevaral times now and I've also called xbox support a few times.
A nice lady told me that there was a problem with the update and that I should wait 24 hours and then try again. After the 24 hours and reading the message from Major Nelson I gave it another go but the error is still there. I called xbox support again and was told to wait for the update fix.
'But it's already out?' I told the guy. But he said that he didn't know of any fixed update so far so he told me to wait 48 hours.

I've had the idea of disconnecting my harddrive and clearing the cache. But I don't know how to clear it? Or if it's a good idea to try and solve the problem myself?

I hope that some glever guy/girl on the forum can lend a helping hand.

BTW my 360 is from febuary and I already have the previous update(s) installed (spring/summer update).

Cheers!

I never expected MS to start bricking peoples consoles.

mine still works though, using the very first c64 firmware release!  tongue.gif

I'm glad they are doing something against the firmware mod.

I want to know if they can do anything to ban us or not

They don't brick consoles. They simply want you to flash back to original which you won't do...

It's unclear what Microsoft really tried to achieve here.

If microsoft do have the capability to update the firmware on a flash, this could be the first step of a plan.
Microsoft could update the firmware on the DVD drive, and lock the version of the firmware in the kernel so you cant downgrade.
Sounds like a strat

Mine MS25 wont run MS28 based firmware at all.. Evrytime I try I get the E66 Error. Try'd 4.0a, 4.1a, 4.2a no go. Xtreme 3.3 Works fine.

How about hexediting the version string, so that MS28 reports back as MS25.  Any comments?  If this works it can be implemented within X360SAM, copying Xtreme firmware + Original version string + Xtreme firmware + Original drive key + Xtreme firmware to produce your custom firmware.

Replacement drives? That's something else we should talk about as it's now probably no longer possible to swap from a Hitachi-LG GDR-3120L to Toshiba-Samsung TS-H943 (or the other way around) as the model of your drive would no longer match the model stored on your 360.

This isn't true.  I am running a Permium console (that came with a Hitachi 46DJ) with a TS-H943 flashed with 3.2 and it ran the update with no problems (via NFS Carbon)

Still boots all games as before.

The update that NFS Carbon does IS NOT the fall update.

Mate trust me IT ISNT

I have modded quite a few 360's I have 3 here now I have updated 2 via live and one not updated the one not updated has had NFS CARBON played on it, after update with carbon it ISNT the same as the other 2 becuae IT ISNT THE UPDATE FROM LIVE!

Think about it mate how would a game that was finished a while ago have an update released a few days ago?

M$ may well never put the fall update on a game disc for all we know or they may.

Well according to this thread it is;
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=559600

Can anyone who knows for sure comment as to whether the NFS Carbon update is the 'Fall Dashboard update' or not?

Appreciated...

It is NOT the Fall Update. NFS Carbon updates to 2.0.2868.0 whereas the Fall Update brings the dash to 2.0.4xxx.0 (not sure what exactly it was) but I was originally wondering as well.

After the NFS upgrade there is no 1080p etc.

Cheers

Hi all.  I just want to get some info before I get the fall update.  I have a MS25 drive in my 360.  However, it has a drive key (and only the key) from a MS28 drive (had to swap mobo's).  Therefore my drive should still be a MS25.  Which firmware do I need to use to keep the update from giving me E66?  I'm not on live so my update will be coming from a game disk, probably GOW.  Thanks in advance for any info.
