Are the only people who are having the Open Tray issue the ones with Pioneer burners? Cause that's all I see.

I'm having no problems so far with my HP burner and TS-H943 MS25 combo.

No,

I was using a Liteon, then switched to the 111-D

The Open Tray error has absolutely NOTHING to do with which firmware version you're using.

I bought a ten-pack of Verbatim DVD+R DLs and burnt seven bad discs all with varying firmware.  Each bad burn would try and read for about ten seconds on my Hitachi v59DJ before offering me the option to Open Tray.

I tried the last three firmware revisions, including v1.23 and v1.29.

After reading this thread http://www.xboxhacker.net/forums/index.php?topic=3890.0 (read every post, including GaryOPA's) I bought a twenty-pack and started burning with IMGBurn at 4x instead of 2.4x, making ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that NOTHING else was going on in the background of my system and since then I have burnt six flawless discs.  With v1.29 firmware.

I repeat: the source of the problem is burning at 2.4x and possibly having programs running in the background during the lead-in/lead-out portion of the burning.  Burn at 4x and make sure nothing else is running and your problem should be solved.

It also has something to do with the drive /laser because all my back ups play fine on a different drive.

Yeah, it seems that it's only the Hitachis that are so fickle about the burn quality.

I have 1.29 flashed on my 111d, when i try to flash with 1.23 it says alredy latest firmware and won't let me flash , should i crossflash to the 111L firmware?
When I cross flash, do I flash to 111d 8.19 and then 111L 8.29?

i have 1.29 on my 111d and when i was using X3.0-3.3 i never had one single open tray error, but as soon as i updated to 4.1 BAM Open Tray errors after playing for 5mins or more and then tryin to change games..i updated to 4.2 and its the same..you would think its heat as it works great from a cold boot, but if that was the case then it would have done so on 3.0-3.3...

I REALLY hope Commodore4eva will look into this and can fix it...

well i went to the official pioneer site and they said that once you update to the 1.29 firmware you can't downgrade...

so what options am i left with? im not sure how this crossupgrading thing works if i have a dvr-111D. It's safe to update the FW thats meant for the 111L? please explain. I am afraid to brick my burner by flashing the fw by doing something wrong. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I downgraded from 1.29 to 1.23 and no probs

i had these open tray errors on 2 different drives (and 2 others for friends)
Hitachi 47 and Sammy MS25 (my 2)
plus another sammy MS25
and another Hitachi (46)
i use a Lite-on burner and cheap HP-DL media
did a small POT tweak on each and it has NEVER happened since!
NEVER......
so i am a firm believer that this problem is the laser

and incase anyone doesnt know but i would imagine most do...
the sammy and hitachi lasers are swapable. my samsung MS25 has
laser from a Hitachi 47 that was bricked due to Birdies flasher.

I dont know if this has been mentioned before but my cous has a Hitachi drive in his 360 and he constantly gets the open tray problem I back his games up for him I only use Verbs or Traxdata and burn at 2.4x speed on my Lite-On show1673s (which is great for 360 by the way) all the games work flawlessley on my 360 which has the samsung ms28 in it, but when I was using his 360 I noticed that I can get around the open tray problem by simply letting it get the open tray error then press OPEN TRAY and quite quickly after press it again (just as you see the CLOSE TRAY writing but before the drive opens) and this loads the games EVERY time on his 360 no probsyou do have to be farily quick but not too quick if that makes sense.

I use Verbatim and cheap Ridisc media with the pioneer DVR 111D fw 1.29 (Bought in the uk for about £20). My drive is a Samsung ms25 previously flashed with Xtreme 4.1B just updated to 4.2B. All backups working just fine.

Oh.. Tested each backup for at least 2 hours, still no problems.

Did a kprobe scan test of the quality of the burnt between 4x and 2.4x on Verbatim + Pioneer combination. It is not giving a very good quality result but burning at 2.4x is still better than 4x if you compared between the two. I will try other "better" media to see if there is any differences ...

I regularly use 111L 8.29 Firmware and i have the open tray error!!. My XBOX is flashed with the xtreme 3.3 Firmware. Backups burned on Verbatim DL media at 2.4x.

So the 111L 8.29 firmware is NOT the solution my friends!!.

I will post my results tomorrow using the 111D 1.23 Firmware. I´m going to see if this makes any difference ´cause currently i´m having the open tray error with the configuration listed above.

Do you always have the error?
I use my 111d with 111L 8.29 (usb) burning verbatims @2.4 with IMGBURN 2.1 !
No probs yet. What software do u use for your burns?

I use xtreme 4.2A.

PS: Can open tray errors have anything to do with the hardware revisions (360 drives)?
Just a thought...
