Ms28 - Firmguard Query
« on: October 30, 2006, 08:14:00 PM »

My ms28 Sammy is currently flashed with Xtreme 3.2 (couldn't be bothered flashing it to a later version).  I had to use the bad flash recovery method (10-15sec trick).

If I flash to the latest Xtreme, how do you reflash it with the firmguard protection if you need to turn off the 360 during the bad flash recovery method?  Or will it act like a ms25 now so no need to turn it off and simply use the enable disc to turn off firmguard?

The FirmGuard is just the MS28 core firmware with it's lockout routines.  So to reflash, just think it's an MS28 and do the bad-flash recovery again.  Also, did you see Boke's hexedit for MTKFlash that makes it list a drive even if it only detects one drive instead of dumping automatically?

Thanks Textbook.  So I don't need to use the enable disc at all with Xtreme 4.2?

So Boke's mtkflash can be used to read/write without having another drive on another IDE channel?  You have a link?

Take this for what its worth.
The enable0800.iso for me was used to get into the 4.2a firmware because the 4.xx series locks with firmware and will not let you read or write. Just disable it with the enable0800.iso burned to dvd dl disc using clonecd @ 2.4x. This is what I had to do .

Yeah, you're right.  I was just telling him to use the bad flash method because I had helped him bad-flash his MS28 originally, so I know he has the ability to do that already.  For other people, use the 0800 disc to disable FirmGuard.

Sweet man - no probs.

Been a while since I've been on the scene so I guess I better update to 4.2 before I get the dash update. Ta

So you are telling that with the original firmware on a MS28 you can only flash the hacked firmware with the bad-flash and the vcc method - while with a hacked firmware (of version 4x and above) on the same drive you can additionally use the 0800 method? -

Is that correct? - what changes does the hacked firmware do to the firmguard??
