Flashing 4.0a To 4.2a With "bad Flash" Method
« on: October 26, 2006, 04:34:00 PM »

Flashing 4.0a to 4.2a with "bad flash" method possible?  After you run the 0800 image you have to turn off drive, so this won't work I figure.  Is there a work around to this?  Or is the only way to solder the 2 points on the dvdrom logic board.

hmmm when u get to the bit in mtkflash when u have to choose the option...  can u not then put the disc in, switch off xbox, push relevant option (select pci sata card etc) then count to 10, switch on xbox, wait for disc to spin up and wait for required time for 0800 mode to kick and then....

o wait that wont work cos mtkflash will try to flash as soon as u turn on the xbox360...

bugger (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i guess u dont need the 0800 disc if u can do the badflash method with the via cards?  only way i can see upgrading from a 4.x to a 4.x if u have a ms28 drive?

Correct.  Since the FirmGuard is essentially just the MS28 firmware, you can read/write to the drive using the bad flash method with a VIA chipset just like if it was a stock MS28 drive.  Still probably a good idea to use the 0800 disc though.

Thanks for the reply textbook...

So to be sure, using the "bad flash recovery" method will work without the 0800 disc?  Because if you needed the 0800 disc, i figure you would HAVE to have the vcc method on the drive because after you unlock the drive with the 0800 disc and start the bad flash recovery you have to turn the dvdrom power off and restart 15sec later.  By that point the drive would have rebooted and still need the 0800 disc?

So just to be sure... the bad flash recovery works with xtreme 4.x without the 0800 disc?

Thanks

Thanks Sir Smoke!!  Imma do it then.

BTW, did you use the xb connectivity kit? or the old fashioned way.  I had to replace my dvdrom using the xb connectivity kit and got a e65 error and had no idea how it happened.

I flashed my first 360 today!!!

After flashing with 4.2b, I could extract the image again using the "bad flash recovery" method, it doesn't need a 0800 disc.

Thanks very much Textook, the videos and tutorials on 360mods.net help a lot!!!

My setup:
Samsumg MS28, Jul/20
Via 6421 also recommended on this forum, U$10 on newegg

No 0800 disc needed just flash as if u would an ms28 done many times. The VIA VT6421 Card is also needed for this unless u have a compatible via onboard sata chipset.

o this is good news, so dont need the 0800 disc.  so any future upgrades on my ms28 will be done exactly the same way as before...
