Keep seeing quite a few posts regarding lost of key by overflashing the default firmware ...
Guys, before you even think of writing the firmware back to your drive, BACKUP the firmware first! After you read the firmware out of the drive, CHECK! Make sure you had dump the correct firmware from your xbox360 drive instead of any other IDE devices.
The firmware read should be 256k in size. Goto 0x4000, you should see something like this '0111111111FFFFFF' for the first 8 bytes. Goto 0x40EC, you see should some hex values for the first 16bytes which is your key. If you are even more paranoid, dump out the firmware twice if you are afraid of corruption during writing or whatever the reason and but sure both firmware are the same. Please make sure you have backup your original firmware correctly before u proceed to overwrite it. This is very important !!!
Also, if possible try not to use a floppy disk for the operation ...
