Samsung Ms28 Flashed And Killed

Hi.
Been reading the forums for a while, but havent posted before.

Just flashed an ms28 samsung with xtreme 4.2a, plugged it in and nothing plays.
Checked the orig.bin and key is all ff ff ff etc. (obviously should have done this before reflashing)
Since i've already flashed the drive with the hacked.bin which would have just used the ff ff ff etc i am guessing im stuffed right?

Are you checking your orig.bin with kdx? Cause if thats what your doing it will appear as all FF`s, even though its really there.

If you check with a hex editor @ $4000-$4400 it should be there somewhere. If its there, try reflashing.

Is there a windows based firmware key validater available?

I'm becoming more and more paranoid that just using samread and samhack isn't a wise idea, and it'd be better to check the original firmware has been extracted correctly prior to running sam hack.

Keep seeing quite a few posts regarding lost of key by overflashing the default firmware ...

Guys, before you even think of writing the firmware back to your drive, BACKUP the firmware first! After you read the firmware out of the drive, CHECK! Make sure you had dump the correct firmware from your xbox360 drive instead of any other IDE devices.

The firmware read should be 256k in size. Goto 0x4000, you should see something like this '0111111111FFFFFF' for the first 8 bytes. Goto 0x40EC, you see should some hex values for the first 16bytes which is your key. If you are even more paranoid, dump out the firmware twice if you are afraid of corruption during writing or whatever the reason and but sure both firmware are the same. Please make sure you have backup your original firmware correctly before u proceed to overwrite it. This is very important !!!

Also, if possible try not to use a floppy disk for the operation ...

Yeah, I always check the orig.bin before writing to the drive.

For a GUI-based key program, download Maximus/Carranzafp's 360 Firmware Toolbox.  All you do is load the orig.bin and it will display the drive key in a text box.  If it fails to load the firmware file then you know something is wrong.

I used a hex editor to read the orig.bin.
It was just all ff ff ff etc.
But.. I got lucky.......
 Because it was an ms28, i was having trouble getting it to see the drive.
I thought i had it at first but the counter just stayed on 00% read, so i assumed it
hadnt saved the orig.bin and tried it again to a different location.
Lucky for me, the first one had actually worked so i had a 2nd copy of orig.bin with the correct key.
Used that to create a hacked.bin and flashed it.
All is working well.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
What can i say... im extremely lucky.
