2st Flasher With 100% Success (ms28) No 10sec Wait
« on: October 24, 2006, 01:31:00 PM »

Hi All.
After reading on here and other forums for a day or so I flashed my drive (ms.28) today with no real problems so I thought I would share the experience for other new users.

I made the boot disk with Xtreme boot maker (3.5)
Used the new 4.2a firmware
Plug the drive into sata 1 on my pc.
Powered on PC and 360
Typed SAMREAD xxxxxxx yyyyy
Selected 1.PRIMARY MASTER
Didn't shut down 360 for 10 seca as this didn't work so just hit 1
Backed up no prob.

Same again for writing but again waiting didn't work so just hit 1 again and away it went.
All types working fine.
I know these never go the same for everyone but that's my 1st experience.
Thanks for all the posters on here for the advice.

What chipset did you flash it with? And are you 100% sure it's an ms28 (I only ask cause you would be the 1st person AFAIK to be able to flash it 100% like normal)?

Yeah it def is ms.28 . I spent  some time reading about all this so I knew what I was trying to do.
My Mobo is a Asus P4C800-E Deluxe (Intel 875p)
Had my PC HD on Raid Sata so changed it to Sata 1.
pulled the plug on all other drives.
Had no success with boot disk until I ran Xtreme Boot Maker.
I tried the guides turning the 360 on when PC was booted and the 10sec thing but this didn't work so to try something different I just booted the PC and 360 at the same time and it worked.
As I said this is just what worked for me today.

If anybodys interested my Boot maker settings were
Custom MTK Flash (Winxp Promise 378 fastrack controller)
MS28 Bad Falsh Compatibility
Apply Bokes patch for ms28 drives
Bingo

So maybe the promise controller works better than the via chipset ones and can program ms28??  Anyone else used this mb?
I got myself an add-on card thinking that my promise controller wouldn't work... but then again, I don't have my 360 yet....

Hi Jester, can you tell me what was your BIOS settings for it to work?  I tried using my promise ports but couldn't get PC booted as the promise bios just sits there waiting to detect the drive....

Very interesting ...  maybe MS screwed up on their FirmGuard, LOL.  They're going to ask us to update to MS29 stock firmware to fix the FirmGuard [kidding].

Great find, you're the first to do this normally as far as I know.

I've read about any tutorial but i have a few issues. Here's my hardware :
- Asus P4P800
- Pioneer 111d DVD (with 812L firmware), i also tried with a LiteOn LTN 526S
- 360 with ms28 july 06

First i tried the normal method with EVERY possible settings and it was a NO GO (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Then i tried the Xtreme Boot method but i had the following issues :

1. When i select the customMTKflash i have : "Contrôleur de stockage Ultra ATA Intel® 82801EB - 24DB"
but when i click "detect" it says the device is not compatible with MTKflash (which is funny because i flashed countless MS25 and hitachi)
There's 6 options (it's in french but this is quite obvious)  :

Contrôleur de stockage Ultra ATA Intel® 82801EB - 24DB (not compatible with MTKFlash)
Canal IDE principal (not compatible with MTKFlash)
Canal IDE secondaire (not compatible with MTKFlash)
Contrôleur de stockage Ultra ATA Intel® 82801EB - 24D1 (compatible with MTKFlash, device ID 808624D1 I/O port : CC00C800)
Canal IDE principal (not compatible with MTKFlash)
Canal IDE secondaire (not compatible with MTKFlash)

i checked MS28 bad flash compatibility and boke's patch.

Then when i boot i have 6 options :
1. IDE PRI MAST
2. ICH5 PRI master
3. ICH5 PRI Salve
4. ICH5 Sec Master
5. ICH5 Sec Salve
6. Xtreme pri master
7. Xtreme pri Slave
8. Xtreme sec master

i tried EVERY single one several times... (with LiteOn DVD or Pioneer DVD to test both)
Do you have a solution ?? Please.
BTW i tried with the 360 ON on the PC boot and OFF too.

Any help would be really appriciated, please tell me if my only option is to buy a VIA SATA PCI card ?

Hey I too have this board....  it is the ICH5 chipset that makes it VERY difficult to time.
I have posted my way of doing it..
click the link and it will show you the way I got it done...it has helped a couple of people now..
LINK TO MS28 VCC ON ICH5 CHIPSET

Of course this is the VCC method..  NO add on card needed.
as far as I know... you can't do this on this motherboard without using the vcc resistor removal method.
otherwise you have to get a via chipset card.

thanks a LOT Majik, your method worked GREAT on my P4P800, i had to time the ENTER part between 2 and 3 seconds, i had a few retry but it ended up working great.

For those who try, don't count 1,2,3.. count 21,22,23 (at most) and that way you won't count too fast (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Btw soldering was a piece of cake and i didn't even use a switch, just bound the 2 cables worked great.

Seems to work with the via card.....
