Cant Flash Winbond Samsung Drive
« on: October 19, 2006, 02:12:00 AM »

I am having trouble reading the firmware off the drive. I am using a floppy disk with mtkflash on it when I type "mtkflash r orig.bin" and choose sata port 1, the computer just freezes and i have to reboot. I tried the ms28 resister switch trick, but it still does not work. I have done several ms28 consoles before when they were the sst ones, but this is the  first one i cant do. Can anyone help?

Forgive me if this sounds a dumb Q, i just got outta bed huh.gif
But im assuming its a TS-H943 drive from a 360 console?  If so looks like M$ are raising the bar again.  sad.gif

Thats why i was asking if it was a console DVD drive or the Samsung SH-D162C PC DVD-drive? I cant understand the lack of glue over the chip.

If it is from a console, whats the MFR date?

No way that could be from a 360, the chip is socketed. M$ would not put chips out there socketed. If this is a true 360 board then you could probably pop the chip out and dump/flash it via an external programmer.

It has the SATA and 360 connector. Wow, that would be nice of M$ to put them in sockets for us  laugh.gif

I do agree that the board does appear to be a true 360 board by the layout, but just can't imagine why M$ would socket the chip, that's like taking a step backwards in combating us. I wonder if they have used a chip that cannot be flashed more than one time, in that case the chip could most likely be replaced by one of the SST chips.

To the guy that has it, you need to get that chip dumped with an external programmer and submit it to c4e so he can begin looking at it. If you live in VA I have one at work I can dump it with.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

EDIT: BTW can you list the dates of purchase, location of purchase, and MFG dates of the console and DVD drive?

Oh man this is good stuff.  The second I saw that picture I laughed.  Socketed firmware chips, wow.  That thing looks incredibly easy to hack.   laugh.gif

WTF? You have to be kidding me..Whas next , they will upload the software to make the flash easier for us....I can't see how this can possibly make hacking the drives harder.. Unless that photo is edited this is great.

Or maybe this was a system modded by someone before you?

MS32??   am I missing something??    thought there was just ms25 and ms28   when did this show up?

Do your drives state ms32 on the sticker?

If the original poster says his is ms32 then why is his windbond and 2 other people on this thread state sst?

What is going on.  come on people you should start giving out the dates, firmware stated on sticker, purchased where and what country?
