Help Flashing Sh-d163a With Kreon´s Fw
« on: October 18, 2006, 03:54:00 PM »

Hanzi,

Try opening a dos window and navigate to the location where you have the sfdnwin.exe file. Then use the -nocheck option to tell the program to not check for the drive. You should run sfdnwin.exe -nocheck and if you did it right, you will see a message comes up that the -nocheck option is running.

I hope that helps

Thanks for the reply, mi Capitán.

Ran it with the -nocheck option.
It accepts the firmware, but when I start the download the new error is "Flash Cmd Fail!!".
Some information about my system:
Win XP SP2, AsRock K7Upgrade-880 (VIA Chipset), RAID is disabled in BIOS (or else the drive doesn´t show in Windows), Virtual Drives (NERO) are disabled.
Hardware Manager: Scsi and Raid-Controller shows NERO IMAGEDRIVE Scsi Controller and VIA SATA RAID Controller. Should I uninstall the NERO drivers and try with Windows drivers instead?

Edit: The NERO bit is probably nonsense. I read sometime you should get rid of Nvidia Chipset drivers and stick to windows. Got a bit confused. The SH-D163A runs with windows drivers, never bothered to install anything else.

Hanzi,

Try to remove everything except the HD that hold your boot partion and the DVD drive. If that does not work, can you try it on another computer? Do you have a External USB case that you can put it in?

I am myslef waiting for my SH-D162C to flash it with the0.81 firmware.

Stripped my computer leaving only HD and DVD-ROM.
Tried it in normal and in safe mode, but still the same messages (not compatible/flash cmd fail).
Will try another PC tomorrow.

Thanks nonetheless

The problem´s been solved, not a hint of a difficulty using another PC.
What really baking my noodle is sfdnwin claiming the FW is not compatible. I think it would do the same with an official FW.
Must be my system settings. The search begins...

I'm having the same problem using the VT6421 Raid Controller.

I guess I'll try to figure out another PC to try and flash it with...

I'm experiencing the same problem. I get the 'not compatible' message and then 'Flash Cmd Fail!!' when I run the nocheck command in DOS. According to this thread http://forums.windri...ead.php?t=65609 the problem is to do with having the wrong driver installed on the primary IDE that causes a conflict.

Any IDE driver experts have any ideas?

Via chpsest esp 6421A boards have a problem with SH-d163A drive... they don't recognize it well and SFNDWIN will not flash them and give the above error. Neither will Xbox Bacup Creator let you use that drive... its the SATA controller not the drive itself. So either get 162C (ide) or another SATA controller. I am stuck with the same problem having purchased an SH-D163A and having the VIA 6421A board...

Does anyone know if the VT6421L non-Raid card will work with the SH-D163A KREON 8.0? Picture at http://iwin2win.stor...idecococan.html If the VT6421L card is also uncompatible, can anyone recommend a SATA controller card that is known to work with the SH-D163A? Thanks in advanced.

I installed a second instance of XP trying to get the 6421 RAID card to work on my PC. You saved me from throwing away my PC out of frustration.  sad.gif
