Dvd Drive Replacements
« on: October 17, 2006, 10:37:00 AM »

With more and more people hacking their firmwares, there is definately going to be a need for replacement dvd drives.  M$ currently isn't making any right?  My real question is if we can use a Samsung Sh-d162c to rip games, why can't that be tweaked to also play 360 games?? What are the current options besides buying a whole new console to get a new dvd drive?

IDE vs. SATA is the biggest reason.  Not to mention the amount of work in adapting the 360's power/eject wire...and the fact that a SATA/IDE adapter may not be able to handle the 360's special commands to the dvd drive.

Only the fact that they don't run games.

Well they do, but you have to reprogram the IC to v40 because v32 isn't really a standard consumer version and doesn't work in the same way as the later revisions, which is why the kiosk disc had no protection on it.

From what i understood , we have to remove the sst chip, reprogramme it with encrypted v40 with dvd key then put it back.Am i right ?
In that case there is another question : which revisions of v32ce could be flashed to v40. I think there are 3 revisions :

Taken from swaytech.org

Hardware Rev: 01 = v10 and v27

Hardware Rev: 02 = v32 and v36 and v40

Hardware Rev: 03 = v46 and v47 and v58 and v59

If we have a rev 3 then we can even flash to v59.However,is there any way to understand what rev it is?

I mailed to a ebay v32ce vendor and he sent me  a number that i don't remember:

xxxxxxx- 002    I believe this 002 is the revision number

On swaytech they sell it for 75£ + shipping which is 150$ + shipping. I'm buying a brand new 47D for 90$+30$ for shipping. There is a big difference.

your link did not point to a specific drive... just your search...

but anyway..

if you have the original dvd key (from original dvd drive firmware)

then purchase any dvd drive you want... I would get a samsung but it is up to you..

DO NOT PURCHASE A 32CE drive from ebay... currently they have issues with the firmwares.

get a dvd drive and insert the key from old drive into firmware of choice and flash to new drive.

I would use 360 toolbox to do this key injecting.

V32ce can be flashed to v40 then it's ok.(desoldering is needed) The problem is version 1 of v32 is trash but v2 can be flashed.I'm looking for a sign on the drive which indicates v2 or v1
