I've read everything on these forums from the 4.0a release and I am still unclear on the following:

If you have a MS28 original drive (flashed with Xtreme 4.0a) and you want to upgrade or downgrade, do you need that 0800 disc or can you use the whole "VIA SATA / 10 slow-seconds hack / non-VCC" to overwrite the firmware.

The reason I'm asking is because the VIA SATA (non VCC) hack requires you to turn off the box a couple of times (off during boot, on for device selection, off when you start flashing and then on for 10 seconds before you select the option - hows that for a short guide ftw? ;-) and I'm not sure when this disc should be inserted (if it even needs to be inserted at all).

Anyone with a stock MS28 that has up/downgraded from a version 4.0 yet and who can say which works?

Thanks for the help  happy.gif

Flashing your drive with Xtreme4.0 firmware installed
-----------------------------------------------------

Plug SATA cable from DVD drive to PC. Power cable drive still connected to Xbox 360

Power on PC

Boot with standard dos boot disk with included mtkflash utility to dos

Power on Xbox 360

Insert Enable0800 disc into drive and wait 10 seconds then eject disc

Run mtkflash as per normal.

"FirmGuard disables reading/writing of drive firmware. This is always on. Can only be turned off via Enable0800 mode. Do not have SATA cable plugged into Xbox 360 console when in Enable0800 mode"

I dont get this last part. Does it mean that when I turn on the xbox, I should run enable0800, wait 10 sec, then connect my sata cable to xbox dvd while it on? & then use mtkflash?

If I upgrade to 4.1 from 4.0 will enable 0800 DVD work if I just hook up the dvd drive with Xecuter Connectivity Kit with no Console?

Also how are most people updating there firmware samread or Mtk flash?

As always works like a charm. Great work again from commodore4eva.

But to tell you the truth I hope these firmware’s become final soon. I always get this sick feeling of playing Russian roulette every time I flash my drive. I keep getting this feeling that one of these times my luck will run out and the power or something will go out when flashing.

I agree, I just flashed to 4.0a and now 4.1a is out.  And what makes it worse I end up seeing the new firmware like 1am EST, and the sites I use don't have the FW available until about 12-24 hours later, guess I'm getting lame smile.gif

So here goes to waiting to get a copy, and updating to 4.1, or maybe 4.2 if the above post is legit.

This is not what I wanted to see this mornin......I got a wild hair up my ass last night and decided to upgrade my 3.3 to 4.0B

I got 4 hours of sleep and now I log in to see there is 4.1b    lmao

O-well.....I hope the 0800 trick works when upgrading to 4.1B when I get home now.

BTW

Before, when the intro to Madden 07 would load on my stock firmware....it would pause halfway through it....now that I have 4.0b, it plays smooth as ever....thanks for the hardwork xtreme

Wish we knew if this "open tray" error was firmware related.  There would be hope that it could be fixed.   grr.gif

With Connectivity Kit

Plug in 360 drive to kit and plug kit to power

Do not plug in sata cable

Boot PC to dos

Insert 0800 disk and wait 10 seconds

Plug in sata cable

Run mtkflash

I have not done this personally but it should be the process

Good Work Commodore4eva...

I'm going to like my sata, because I don't have to open my xbox360 anymore to flash smile.gif. In my opinion every day there can be a new firmware smile.gif with new fixes....
by the way. I flashed with the firmware and it works good.

Get yourself a UPS and use that to power your 360 when flashing

I just upgraded from 4.0A to 4.1A and everything went as smooth as silk. Thanks C4E!

Now we just have to wait until midnight to see if MSFT has added FW checks...

Please could someone explain the exact difference between A and B?
Which one is better for originals, and which one for backups?
What's the best choice, or which one is recommended?

Thanks in advance!
