i'm looking to get a new dvd drive, and was wondering how i use the key "marry" it to the motherboard. the key comes w/ the drive

what you need is the key from YOUR dvd drive or in other words YOUR motherboard.

The key stays with the motherboard.


So... you have a broken dvd drive ??  you need the key from it.  then you put that key into the new dvd drive you are getting.

If you are wanting to put a new dvd drive into your 360.. then YOU must have already read and have an original.bin file from your original dvd drive.

use 360 toolbox to get the dvd key from that firmware file...copy it...  then open hacked firmware of choice and paste key in box... then press replace key.  flash away onto new dvd drive and you are done.

Hi everyone

I destroyed my dvd drive through bad soldering... however whiout the dvd system boots up and i even can play demos from the HD

Now i'm planning to change the dvd (I found the same on ebay) it is Samsung TS H943A

You metioned that I need the key from my previous drive i.e. from motherboar - right? Now, how could i get it (key) wthiout dvd? When i attached it - system does not boot up... I really screwed up...

Could you please help me in how to extract it from motherboard?

at the current time and probably for a VERY long time it is not possible to get the key from the motherboard.

The key at present time is only able to be found in the dvd drives firmware.

You MUST have a original firmware file from the dvd drive if you want to replace it with another one.

If your dvd drive is dead and you Do NOT have this backup of the original firmware basically you will HAVE to send it off to someone such as Stusy (member here on x-s)  or anyone for that matter that can remove the chip from the dvd drive circuit board and READ it with an external programmer..  That person can then send you the firmware he received from the chip and from that you can find your dvd key using 360 toolbox program.   then you will be able to use that on the new dvd drive you purchase.

BUT
If you do not know how to flash your dvd drive... this will have to be done on the new dvd drive.. no matter what.   So if you cannot do this process which is basically the same as READING the firmware first and backing it up.. this may not be  for you...I guess you would have to find someone to flash it for you at worst case senario.  

Either way you MUST have the firmware from the original dvd drive ... other wise you xbox is worthless except for parts.


PS...   HOW did you destroy your drive through bad soldering???   The ONLY drive I believe exists that you need or would need to solder is the samsung MS28 drive... this is what you had?

IF so you more than likely can send it to anyone that can fix what you did.   especially since  you did not flash the chip or really touch it right?   I mean there are people that more than likely can fix any piece on that board SOMEHOW ..  especially if they know where you touched it at with the soldering iron.  This is probably a good thing you should show or explain what you did.

I can extract the orignal key from the firmware chip on your original DVD drive.

I destoyed it when i was soldering the NME-360... it is pretty stupid what i did... while trying to solder one of the wires to what so'called alternative point 2 (in Under the dog's instructions) I accidently touched the legs/connections of the thin square looking microchip (located kind off in the middle of the board)... however the ONE that is covered/protected with some sort of the hard plastic material stayed untouched... I believe this is the one that needs to be flashed???
I kinda start paniking trying to remove that soldering from that microchip-but made it worse...

yeah that is more than likely fixable.   It kinda depends but more than likely you just need someone that can get the solder off those pins..  and yes you probably would have been better off just flashing the firmware chip instead of trying that nme chip

Can i send yuo a picture to confirm that chip has firmware on that board is the one i am thinking of... The reason i am asking is that samsung drives are very seldom on ebay as opose to Hitachi, so just wanted to make sure that if the chip (one am thinkig of) is not damaged then i could go ahead and buy the thing from ebay

sure you can...  but the firmware chip IS the chip under the black epoxy type crap.   I do not know what the other chip does.. but if it is just solder that is bridging the legs.. all you need is someone to remove that solder... which could be difficult but also could turn out to be pretty easy for anyone with a little more skill than you type of person lol   or even me for that matter.

Say I have x41a.bin, that worked on my last drive, with my key in it of course. Can I... with the new drive just flash that. or do I have to flash my orig.bin first. Thansk

Umm if you physically have a DVD KEY from your original dvd drive ..
DOES NOT MATTER if you have it in ANY firmware as long as THAT firmware worked at one time or another on that dvd drive in that original setup ... then yes you can take the key from that and insert it to any firmware from there...

so if you have a hacked firmware that you know worked at one time... then you know your key is correct in that hacked firmware...   then yes you by all means can flash that firmware to the next dvd drive you purchase.


You are good to go.   Cuz that hacked firmware DID work at one time on the original drive.

Alright well yeah I belive SOMEONE can fix it...  you did really mess it up lol  but hey whatever (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Aftre that i decided to solder the wires 1 and 2 to the alternative point as per Underthedog's instruction again - thinkig maybe this would help...and one of this alternative points (2) was very cose to the thin microchip (MT1359SE) in the middle of the board.... So while trying to remove the coating from the path to solder the wire to, I accidently touched thin legs/connectors of that microchip... I kinda start paniking trying to remove that soldering but just made it worse...
 
Sorry for giving you too much information i just wanted you to know everything - hopefully that will help fixing the problem... I also attached the pictures from the board
 
So could you please have a look ans see if it looks fixable to you at all?

No no no.. first off just hope that whoever can fix this the drive will work fine afterward as original...
it worked fine even after you took the chip off...it stopped working since you crossed legs trying to put it back on... so this is a "hardware" problem and should be able to get that solder cleaned up and those traces repaired ...   then hope the drive works original after that....  MAYBE the same person can save you a step in the long run and mod the damn thing while in their hands...

if the drive does not work after ward.. hopefully the same person you send it to.. can then REMOVE the firmware chip and get your dvd key from reading it with external programmer...

THEN you need to buy a new dvd drive...samsung hopefully (as this will be easier for you)
then screw using that NME chip.. just get rid of it...

If you get this far needing to put a key on a new drive.. msg me I will help you from there.. it depends on what hacked firmware you are going to flash with on what next steps to take.

You just need to get that drive to someone that can hopefully be able at worst case senario remove that chip and read with external programmer... and also more than likely if they have the know how and/or ability to do this they more than likely are very able to just try to fix the hardware (crossed legs bad solder areas) and revive your drive without replacing it.

Is it possible to replace the X360 drive with a different drive version or manufacturer than what was originally in the box? (provided that the key is copied from the old drive to the new drive)

eg. TS-H943 (ms25) replaced with Hitachi (v59)
