yes some interesting information here .but i have one thing that worrys me about this new firmware.i hope someone will clear this up for me.:If you have a bad flash on the samsung drive and the drive will not even spin up how would it be possible to enable 0800 mode to de-activate the new firmeware firmguard feature.
also in the release the firmware bin files 40a and 40b have spelt xtrem insted of xtreme.
Thanks
I might be wrong on this one, but I think if you did a bad flash like that and your drive doesn't even spin up anymore, it's bricked. It probably means the fw is completely screwed and doesn't take SATA commands anymore and the flash routines that used to be in the eeprom are also gone, so flashing through a PC is out. Only option would then be to desolder the eeprom en program it using an external programmer. But maybe someone can correct me on this one, as I'm not 100% sure the eeprom cannot be programmed without at least a working fw in the eeprom.
One other question that a number of people have asked here, but I haven't seen an answer to yet: if I flash my ms28 that has Xtreme 3.3 on it (so it has ms25 fw core), will I be able to flash it easily after I put 4.0 on it? In other words, do I need one of the ms28 tricks again to flash it later, or can the drive be flashed 'normally' after it is put in 0800 mode?
