my drive came with ms25 firmware on it and I was wondering.  I am using the 4.0A firmware now and when I play games like Saints Row backup and such is it supposed to spin up and then slow down and then spin back up and slow down?

Is it possible to disable the lockout thing in this firmware.

I dont want to insert the enable0800 discs everytime i want to flash.
Because my flashing went wrong and i had to solder 2 wires to the 00 resistor in order to flash it to xtreme 3.1 now.

Is it possible just to overwrite the hacked firmware (version 3.2) or do you need to extract the hacked firmware and then inject the new firmware (version 4.0b).  I still have my firmware stored on my Hard Drive.

Also would I need to know what i renamed the hacked firmware to for example mtkflash r /m myxtrm3.2.bin.  The reason I ask this is I have no idea what I renamed it as I copied it from a tutiorial I got some time ago.
Or can I use the mtkflash r /m original.bin.  To extract the hacked firmware.

Thanks very much

This FW is great!  biggrin.gif I had a couple of backups that would not boot with 3.3 in fast speed mode, but they boot 100% with 4.0A.

Great job c4e!

Originally ms-25, flashed with xtreme 3.2 and worked great. Took my original.bin dropped it into the xtreme40 folder and ran make x40a.bin and copied the new x40a.bin file to my floppy with mtkflash already on it. Connected the xbox drive to my PC using xecuter connectivity kit and flashed with mtkflash w / x40a.bin and it flashed fine. Tried it out, plaed my backups fine including Burnout Revenge intro at the 12x speed. Thanks for that!

My question is this. Since I am using the connectivity kit, if I were to want/need to update the firmware later, will the 0800 disk put the drive into 0800 mode while connected in this manner? I use a sh-d162c for my bacups.

Thanks,

I have a quick question.  I flashed with 4.0A.  Backups worked fine.  Then I inserted an original game.  The dashboard was stuck at "Reading".  I assume this was when it switched to Slow mode?  I ejected the CD and reinserted it...same thing.  I turned the console off/on....it was stuck at the Xbox 360 logo, didn't want to go to dashboard.  I turned it off/on again, booted a backup, ejected it, and then booted the original and that's when it worked.

Am I doing something wrong?

Ah finally!! I have exactly the same problem.

yes some interesting information here .but i have one thing that worrys me about this new firmware.i hope someone will clear this up for me.:If you have a bad flash on the samsung drive and the drive will not even spin up how would it be possible to enable 0800 mode to de-activate the new firmeware firmguard feature.

also in the release the firmware bin files 40a and 40b have spelt xtrem insted of xtreme.

Thanks

I might be wrong on this one, but I think if you did a bad flash like that and your drive doesn't even spin up anymore, it's bricked. It probably means the fw is completely screwed and doesn't take SATA commands anymore and the flash routines that used to be in the eeprom are also gone, so flashing through a PC is out. Only option would then be to desolder the eeprom en program it using an external programmer. But maybe someone can correct me on this one, as I'm not 100% sure the eeprom cannot be programmed without at least a working fw in the eeprom.

One other question that a number of people have asked here, but I haven't seen an answer to yet: if I flash my ms28 that has Xtreme 3.3 on it (so it has ms25 fw core), will I be able to flash it easily after I put 4.0 on it? In other words, do I need one of the ms28 tricks again to flash it later, or can the drive be flashed 'normally' after it is put in 0800 mode?

- People

I would refrain from updating the firmware if you already have xtreme fw and your backups are working fine. As of right now no one is being banned from live and MS has no capabilities to detect hack fw. Again, as of now there is no need to update the fw to xtreme 4.0. An update is coming to live tomorrow, just wait and see what the collateral damage is over the next couple of days. For all you know MS will be no further ahead in detecting hacked fw if you have 3.0 installed or 4.0.

My xbox works perfectly and if it ain't broke don't fix it.
