I know this might sound lazy, but I don't want to f-up my drive.  Do you think there will be a eralease of V4 that you can just put in the root of X360SAM and just run the hack the same as V3.3?  Basically I understand that you can edit stuff for this to work, but I would rather wait if it will be simpler/noob proof later.

To clear up the enable0800 question about not having the drive connected to the 360 when in this mode, this is just so you don't accidently have your 360 connected normally and put it in 0800, this would "unlock" the drive and make it possible for fw update.  It will not do anything to your 360 if you do have it connected, but it does put it at risk for an unauthorized fw update.

yes only after reflash ur putting a ms 28 core firmware on youre drive you could avoid the switch if you get via chipset pci card .

I doubt this, from the readme:
CODE
Flashing your drive with Xtreme4.0 firmware installed
-----------------------------------------------------
Plug SATA cable from DVD drive to PC. Power cable drive still connected to Xbox 360
Power on PC
Boot with standard dos boot disk with included mtkflash utility to dos
Power on Xbox 360
Insert Enable0800 disc into drive and wait 10 seconds then eject disc
Run mtkflash as per normal.

yes, i put my orig.bin file in the xtreme40 folder and then executed the make 40xa file, then i put x40a.bin on my floppy disc and copy it to the harddrive of my flash computer.
I'm not a n00b, i flashed my drive over 10 times with succes.
But with this new firmware update disable thing, i'm stuck now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

My drive wont read any discs, so also not the enable0800 disc. it wont even spin up.
I follow the exact instructions from the readme.

So I cannot reflash my drive with orig.bin (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Just checking - you did use your 'original' original orig.bin?
I.e. you didn't dump your 'already modified' one did you?!

That would screw your drive.

well this firmware could possibly do damage to your xbox depending on how MS do their next update...

what would happen if the update, updated the dash and then tried to flash the firmware at the end of it. Then it crashed as it couldn't update. You could potentially be left with a bricked console.....

anyway my thoughts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Wrong - as I mentioned about a half dozen posts back; Microsoft will probably never attempt to flash the firmware because they released the ms28 (which can't, to our knowledge, be flashed by the 360).

my opinion is that M$ cant flash the drive via dash updateslook at all the hassle we have to go to get are drives flash they could check the firmware but they cant flash it . only time will tell

lenselijertje  what chipset do you have and did you restored the original firmware to youre drive before flashing
or you just overwrote youre old extreme firmware?
