Ok I have made a x40a.bin file do I just put that in the backups folder of X360SAM.EXE and run Samhack xxxxxxx xxxxx?

If i'm doing this on a new xbox do you just put the xtrem40a in backup folder and run
Samread and samhack or do I have to rename xtrem40a for it to work?

so 4.0 uses the ms28 core firmware, does that mean in the future if I wanted to flash it again I have to go through all the annoying steps that the real ms28 drive owners have to do?

hi there, i came across somewhere in the forum that you can extract the 'key' out of your existing hitachi drive's firmware and embedded it into the xtreme.bin and flash it back to a sammy tsst-h943a which you can buy off from ebay.  so, you will be able to use all the features from c4eva.....  just a thought!
well, just do a flash of your drive back using your orig.bin the same way as you would do if you flash your drive from orig.bin to xtreme.bin.....  just treat your orig.bin as one of those hacked firmware from xtreme....  hope that will help.....

I thought he said you can ONLY activate read/write with the 0800 mode .. meaning, even if your xbox is plugged into your pc, (since it's flashed to v4), you need to activate the read/write with your disk and then flash it ..

look :

Flashing your drive with Xtreme4.0 firmware installed
-----------------------------------------------------
Plug SATA cable from DVD drive to PC. Power cable drive still connected to Xbox 360
Power on PC
Boot with standard dos boot disk with included mtkflash utility to dos
Power on Xbox 360
Insert Enable0800 disc into drive and wait 10 seconds then eject disc
Run mtkflash as per normal.

I wonder the same thing, didn't have any problems flashing my ms28, but I had to start the console, stop, then start it back 10sec l8er...  Will it work with this firmware?

What do you mean?  Why couldn't you just put it in Enable0800 mode then flash it to back to original?

How would you put it into Enable0800 mode though, bearing in mind it's stopped reading discs and that's why you want to flash it back to retail?

Nearly.

Put XTREM40A.BIN in the SAMSUNG folder (not the BACKUPS folder)
Edit SAMREAD.BAT and change the X360SAM.EXE line so that it uses XTREM40A.BIN instead of whichever one it uses now.
Do the same for SAMREMOD.BAT.

If you've already flashed using that PC, use SAMREMOD.BAT, this takes your existing ORIG.BIN and creates a new HACKED.BIN, in this case using XTREM40A.BIN as a base.

Yes you can.

I'll be hitting the streets later with 4.0B for the Samsungs and 2.2S for the Hitachis.  Even done a brand-new EvolutionX Install DVD for the old Xboxes. cool.gif

If your drive is running Xtreme 3.3 then it's not an ms28 any more tongue.gif
All predecessors to XTREME 4.0 were based on the ms25 firmware.  Flash with one of these and your drive becomes an ms25-equipped drive.
Once flashed with Xtreme 4.0 it'll be an ms28 drive, regardless of whether it was ms21, ms25, ms28 etc. when it left the factory.  Presumably the pain-in-the-arse flash method's been knocked out though, so apart from requiring an Enable0800 CD/DVD it should be as easy to flash as an ms25.

Don't bother restoring, if you still have ORIG.BIN you can use X360SAM to make a new HACKED.BIN based on that and the XTREM40x.BIN file of your choice.  If you restore you'll need to use the ms28 method to reflash.  At the moment you won't.

Oh, didn't read the bit about the drive has stopped reading discs. That's a very good point.

I feel an Xtreme 4.1 coming on... tongue.gif

you cant put this firmware on the xsam360 it will not recognized it u have to do this method manualy
its the same thing as flashing you drive with the other firmware nothing has change the only thing is to reflash it
after thi 4.0 firmware has been installed you have to put ur drive in 0800 mode
all you have to do is put in the 0800 mode disk on 360 let it spin take it out and reflash it again simple.

I have a quick question.  I lost my original.bin when one of my hdds died on me.  I do have copies of my xtreme v1, v2 and v 3.2 though.  Do I need to hex edit the xtreme 4.0 with my key or can i copy one of my already hacked firmware to the same directory as xtrem40a.bin and run Make X40a.bin.  If hex edit is needed is my key still pasted in the same plase as all of the older releases?  I keep copies on 2 different hdds now but can't retrieve my original one.  Thanks for any advice and thanks to Commodore4eva for creating and keeping alive the whole 360 scene.

Personnaly, I hate the dual speed concept, I really want to know if this option can be desactivated by hexediting the .bin ?

Also the Read/write enable concept can be upgraded in order to consider the "bricked drive restoring problem", using tray open detection when turning on can be a solution
