Possible that MS be able to make a flash routine? Absolutely. Would they ever do it? Corporately, I think this would never be advocated. Lots of things are "possibile/plausible" to do, but "would" they do it? No way for the same reasons they never tried to reflash your xbox fw even though plenty of people had flashable bios. MS, Sony, Nintendo are not going to take actions resulting in bricked consoles (regardless of how small a percentage that is (sometimes flashes go wrong, power outages happen etc).
Very good point, exactly my thoughts. Knowing M$, either one of 3 things can happen if you'd ask me (in order of likelyness):
1) MS cannot (reliably) check if your fw is hacked for all possible drive/fw combinations, and just accepts that a small percentage of consoles will be hacked. By using tricks like the black glue on new drives they try to keep this percentage as low as possible.
2) MS can detect any type of hacked fw but doesn't want to risk bricking any drives, piss of customers and suffer negative publicity, so they do nothing about hacked fw yet (see option 1). They might already be gathering serials of boxes with illegal fw silently, possibly for later use.
3) MS can detect any type of hacked fw and will do something about it. In this case I don't expect XBL bans (as they still generate revenue), I'd sooner expect that they disable XBL features, put nag screens in the dashboard, maybe even locking the machine up after you've played for a while, that kind of stuff. Just annoy the hell out of you when you're playing a backup. This would defeat the whole purpose of hacking the DVD fw, as your box will be less usable than before the hack. They might introduce some kind of 're-activation' scheme a la Windows XP to have your box unlocked again, once.

People are inherently lazy. They want someone else to tell them answers and do all the work for them. If they didn't, they would make a fw file the old fashioned way using a hex editor and then also do one with x360sam deal. They could then compare the resulting bin files using something like ultracompare to see that the bin files created either way are identical. But, they are too lazy and want all the answers. These are the people that will also end up bricking their drives because they aren't willing to put in the time necessary to do it right. These are also the people that always ask "I hear flashing fw is possible to play backups. How do I do it?" That for me is an instant ignore. There are so many freakin posts here about all aspects of it that it is unforgiving to ask such questions when searches or browsing will give you what you need.
Again, very good point. I'm absolutely amazed by the questions in this thread. The same questions are asked 5 times over and over, while literally all you need to know is already available through the forums, readmes etc... Also some answers and theories here are just plain bollocks, which doesn't help either. I knew absolutely nothing about fw hacking when I flashed my drive and found out everything I need in less then 30 minutes. If you're not smart enough to find the information and tools you need to do it right 1st time around, then just forget about it and let someone else take care of it because you might very well brick your drive.
