I still think what I said could definately be a possibility, I mean, they wouldnt be reflashing them all the time, they would reflash it once, and only if you have hacked firmware. If c4e can make a disk iso that enables reading, M$ might have a shot of doing something similar...hell, they could even d/l the one that comes with the xtreme firmware and integrate it into a gamedisc somehow, along with a program that detects which drive you have so it can reflash the firmware it wants on there. maybe itll be the standard latest 'original' firmware for you brand of drive, maybe you could reflash it after they do that, I think its certainly plausible anyway.
Reflashing it once doesn't make sense because I would just go and flash it back to 4.0 or whatever right away, so if they were to put together a reflashing strategy, it would have to be one that checks and reflashes when it is not "orig".
Possible that MS be able to make a flash routine? Absolutely. Would they ever do it? Corporately, I think this would never be advocated. Lots of things are "possibile/plausible" to do, but "would" they do it? No way for the same reasons they never tried to reflash your xbox fw even though plenty of people had flashable bios. MS, Sony, Nintendo are not going to take actions resulting in bricked consoles (regardless of how small a percentage that is (sometimes flashes go wrong, power outages happen etc).

Oh and for the record, all those posts Ive seen about people asking if you can do it manually, yes of course you can. if you changed the keys position in the firmware something bad would probably happen. That said, I dont know shit about firmware coding so it might not be the case, but I hexed in my key from my original firmware and it worked fine.
I've never used any other program except hexworkshop and mtkflash to do it...i dont know how that x360sam thing works but it sure seems like a waste of effort....
<snip>
People are inherently lazy. They want someone else to tell them answers and do all the work for them. If they didn't, they would make a fw file the old fashioned way using a hex editor and then also do one with x360sam deal. They could then compare the resulting bin files using something like ultracompare to see that the bin files created either way are identical. But, they are too lazy and want all the answers. These are the people that will also end up bricking their drives because they aren't willing to put in the time necessary to do it right. These are also the people that always ask "I hear flashing fw is possible to play backups. How do I do it?" That for me is an instant ignore. There are so many freakin posts here about all aspects of it that it is unforgiving to ask such questions when searches or browsing will give you what you need.
