I bet this wont fix your drive if the key is lost... I imagine many people who have lost their drive key will be buying this just to notice that this fix wont work.

He means that whilst this device will un-brick a drive, if the key was lost during the bricking, then all you have done is recovered the drive to a state useless for playing games.

Installed the chillifix had to change to change 2 SMD resistors ( blue in pic ) for the drive to get in to mode b but still no lens activity / spinup of drive, still dosen't show up in windows, think something else might be blown, any ideas if it might be the the one  in ( red in pic ) and what do i replace this chip with ?

Ok so ... this chip seems to be a big bullshit. i'v installed it on my bad flashed hitachi 47dh drive, and it did nothing ... I'v solder it 2 times to be sure of the solder points, its not working at all ...
I would advice to buy a new drive directly instead, unless someone confirm this chips to work.

I have a chip on the way. The drive I bricked had a disk in it when I was trying to upgrade the firmware. Doh. I hope it fixes it. I will let you all know it it works. My buddy at www.foundmy.com also fixes Fooked up hitachi drives.

Yes, let us know !
Maybe my drive was really broken, but i have an activity of the lens and it was just due to a bug when my friend was flashing it, so i tought the chip would be able to repair this.
Note that my drive wasnt see under the bios anymore so ...

For people with a broken drive: is there someone with a drive that is available under the bios ?

i read in another post that a bricked hitachi was fixed by using a ide to sata adaptor and a ide dvd drive and then once a drive letter was assigned they swapped the sata to the bricked drive and flashed it
well i was wondering

if that worked then maybe a simpler method would be to get a sata dvd drive like the 49.99 sata lightscribe at the local computer store

has anybody tried swapping after the drive was found and given a letter
the problem with my drive is it froze the pc when flashing so i think its a bad checksum
