One question, do you still need to use +DL media or can you use -DL too now?

Did not even know there was dvd -DL      I have not seen these.. but either way.. no one has ever stated you can so I would assume not.

Well blow me down, 1 hour later i returned to the 360 to just see if it would play my originals again, and sure enough i've just spent the last 20mins or so playing testdrive. God knows whats going on but it seems to be ok now. Stupid bloody computers  biggrin.gif

Think i'll wait for gary's proper V3 before playing with the firm again ph34r.gif

I don't think it's the firmware that's causing your problem.  Three-lights-of-death can be caused by poor soldering on the motherboard - not your soldering, FACTORY soldering!  There's a fix for it that involves a heat gun and some foil to reheat the board and re-melt the solder, believe it or not!  It was on here a few weeks ago.

It's probably doing it now because you've disturbed things by flipping the machine over, undoing all the screws, etc.  As the machine warms up, the connections are breaking and causing the crash.

just wanted to add that this was a virgin drive and had never been flashed before.  I'm thinking I should revert back to the original firmware and then flash to the Garyopa 2.1 since it's the tried and true.  I will keep messing with the current drive by powering it off and manualling putting the disc in hoping it gets out of mode b.  Thanks for any help.

it looks like the media detection ver2 works good (tell us more! how bout on ridata dvd+r dl?). what bout the ss extraction? is it working well?

i hate to admit but there's not improvement to this release except those i mentioned above to get my drive updated specially the media stealth feature.

You do not need the OLD restore.bat to restore.   You do not need anything in that folder opa creates to do a restore.

Hitachi firmwares ARE PATCHED, it is not the WHOLE image of the firmware that is reflashed (such as samsungs)  so the restore.bat figures what drive you have and uses info that it knows to put your current firmware back to original (it figures the key durring this process also)

So get the new firmware release and inside like your old release there is a restore.bat..
just type restore.bat (drive letter here)

Stealth Media
-----------------

This is to clear up a few misconceptions about what Stealth Media is and how it works. This is not firmware stealth. Reading the firmware itself for changes is not controlled by the firmware itself, it is a low level hardware function which cannot be stopped by firrmware code.

There's something I don't understand.
The lack of a stealth media feature means what?
Backup not working if, say, DMI checked in future
or
backup working (if, again, DMI checked in future) but modified firmware exposed on live?

Is it reasonably ok to go on Live with modified Hitachi stealth firmware and pressed dvds or nothing has changed?

Not for me.  I had a virgin drive which I have flashed with this firmware and everything has worked as expected.

However, when trying to extract the SS.BIN using GETSS.EXE it says 'spectrum4eva SS dumper for firmware f900' and then just hangs.  Never goes any further.

My Hitachi drive version is 0047DJ.

Flashed a 47, works great.

Reads my old NEC 3500 burns that before only worked on the Samsung.  Too bad I just bought a Pioneer 111D last week laugh.gif

Hi,

I don't think it is a waste getting the 111D ... I believe it is a much better drive in duplicating 360 games in term of quality, etc. Backup N3 using NEC 3500 and played well in full speed but hung occassionally in 'quiet mode'. The same game backup using Pioneer 111D using the same media(verbatim) function flawlessly in either mode ...
