Hitachi Key Insertion Tutorial
« Reply #30 on: November 02, 2006, 12:13:00 PM »

I am having a similiar problem with you tutorial. I bought a motherboard without a DVD drive but it came with the mobo key, so I got a used DVD drive and tried to inject the key. I wasnt sure if the original or a hacked firmware was on the drive so first I used the restore command. I then did the memdumb like the tut says and injected the key with the  Firmware toolbox app and saved the encripted file. I then tried to flash it and everything went good but it would not read originals. At first I though maybe I had the worng key, but then I tried to inject the key of my personal 360 and tested if the drive would work with my 360 but no luck. I am doing somthing wrong? I have a feeling it has to do with the firmware on the drive when I bought it, is there a way to fix it? I forgot to mention that I am using the commands from the Maximus-Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_3_Stealth_Rev2 package and if I dump it and check the key it matches the one that I attempted to inject.

hi

i have had a msg from a member dajuice showing that there was a small bit that i missed in the tutorial, and i have revised it to v1.2 to fix this. basically i forgot to add that you need to press the replace key button in firmware toolbox BEFORE you press the generate encrypted fw button, or else it will not replace the key and encrypt the fw with the old key instead. apologies to anyone that this has caused confusion or time spent with the wrong key as the post above.

mikey, try this. dump the fw of the new drive as it is now, then follow the new tut. before you flash the new encrypted fw, open it in the toolbox app first to verify the correct key is in the fw. then do the rest as per the tutorial. it shouldnt really matter what FW revision is on the drive original or hacked as long as you dump it first and work with that image only.

hit me with a msg or pm if you are still stuck.

here is a link to the new tutorial if originalcompgeek could update the first post in this thread to suit also.

http://38.119.88.37/...torial_v1.2.PDF

once again please support my attempt to get this added to the tutorial list ive had so many pm's from kind members asking for this it seems silly not to make it easy to find.

thanks for everyones support!!

wow nice tutorial!

I just bought a 360 and i got the Horrible 0078FK.  I am planning on swapping it with either older hitachi or Samsung.

Now my question is Can i follow your tutuorial for this? I know my drive might not be readable by PC b/c of the lack of FW hackablility.

Any help or support will be helpful to all the 0078FK owners!

hi guys nice tut ive gotten all the way to the end where u gotta inject the fw back into the drive i do exactly what the tut does and it gives me this error:

DeviceIOControl<> failed 0
failed to initiate modeB (sense: 05/20/00)

Its in modeb because i was able to rip the fw and it was detected in windows.

If this tutorial hasn't been pinned, then it should be because it was the ONLY reason I attempted to buy a replacement DVD rom ($95) after bricking my 47dj. It was easy to understand and follow. My 360 was just a $400 door stopper before that. Now I got it up and running because of it and flashed with the Maximus Garyopa firmware. Great job Gazcoigne. Thanks for taking your time to put together this tutorial and helping others that may need it as well.

apologies here is the link to the latest tut

http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=...torial_v1.2.PDF

for the error

DeviceIOControl<> failed 0
failed to initiate modeB (sense: 05/20/00)

just do it again in the same cmd window hit up arrow then enter sometimes it does this i dont know why!!

as for the 78 as far as im aware of you cant read the fw by software, only by removing the chip and placing it in a willem programmer, so i dont know what you are going to do with it. perhaps a swapout at walmart if ur in US?

thanks!!

QUOTE

This injects the key only into the part of the Rom chip where the key is located.

Is there a way to flash the entire chip, like I said I have followed this tut exactly and tried with two different mobos and two different keys with no luck so I am thinking that my FW got somehow corrupted (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif) I have tried using the restore command also with no luck, and when I check the key after I save the encypted file it matches the one that I tried to inject. Could I use a  47dj FW dump that I know is good, inject my key and flash the entire chip?

mikey - no you cant flash a full image by software, it will brick the drive completely read the tut for the explanation why. it can be done externally but that involves removing the TSOP chip and programming it externally.

the one just keep doing it over and over until it does it again, it does it sometimes just keep trying!! it will work eventually.

I followed your tutorial but somehow it's not injecting the new key.

After I do the "47flash e orig-e.bin 90004000 1000" and get "Done", I then use the read.bat (from gary 2.3) to create a firmware dump. When I check the new dump, it still has the old key instead of the new key.

EDIT: My mistake.. After I flashed it with FW2.3, I checked 00004ef0 and it contains the new key. Thanks for the great tutorial.
