How can i take it back to the shop

Erm. never quite heard such a stupid question. Do you want to be spoon fed.

Try putting it all back and say its an unwanted present or something. most shops dont even ask for a reason if it was only recently.

be reminded that returning a 360 with a broken seal is pretty much illegal and not to be discussed on these forums.

Brought it from Game and i have heard that if the seal is broken they wont take it back

Not sure but im going there tomorrow
UK consumer law stipulates that you can return the item for a full refund or exchange within 28 days of purchase for whatever reason. So game have to exchange it at the very least. If you can't get a full refund, take it back and tell them that it freezes on every game randonly after an hour or so worth of play. They can't test it then and will probably give you a new console with hopefully a flashable drive in it.

As far as I knew, Philips were only in dev kits and the new wave of consoles would have a lite on drive.

It can't be a Philips drive, it must be the new Lite-On/BenQ SATA drive.

Can you please take a picture of the tray and post it so we can be sure,
and if you have broken the seal and open the cover, please post picture
of top of the drive with label showing the drive/make/model/date.

Plus what is the mfg. date on the back of the console?

Thanks Gary i will sort out a pic tomorrow

If its a Lite-On/BenQ SATA what fw do i use ?

the only firmware that's available is the Hitachi and Samsung. I'm sure they'll eventually be firmware for all the drives. But if you're like me and you have no patience, then return it and tell them it freezes like the other guy said, and they have to just exchange it hope for a hitachi or samsung.

ah just read this:

Microsoft has begun seeking manufacturing partners to make an internal HD DVD drive for a redesigned Xbox 360 console, whistle-blowers from among Taiwan's optical disk drive production community have claimed. And the software giant may be looking at incorporating disc-burning technology in the console.

It has to be said, of course, that Microsoft has yet to ship its Xbox 360-oriented external HD DVD player, and it may well have simply been looking for further manufacturing partners for the internal workings of this add-on.

does this mean that this guy has an internal HD DVD drive in his xbox360?

MS fighting the flashers by releasing new drives is GOOD, means they may not ever put out an update that stops the older drives  happy.gif
