Media Stealth & Firmware Stealth For Samsung & Hitachi - I Am
« on: September 27, 2006, 03:35:00 PM »

Hi,

I am a modchip installed / firmware updater in the Netherlands.

I would like to be 100% sure, that when I tell my customers that they can go online with backups, that they really do not take any risks.

Somehow, when I read the documentation:

- it is somehow too technical
- the person who wrote it, assumes, that I would understand all

Does somebody has links to documentation about this, who can really explain, how it works ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Well first of all I can tell you that media stealth isn't even out yet... (at least for hitachi)
And second of all that no one ever said it's safe to go on live with firmware mods.
So don't tell your customers that, because that's a lie... that nobody told you to tell.

Yeah, don't use the word "safe."  You could say that currently Microsoft has not banned anybody from Xbox Live using the firmware hacks, but may (and probably will) in the future.

That said, if you still want to know how the technology kind of works...

I think it works like this... (Anyone feel free to correct me)

Media Stealth: Makes the backup disk read like an original by eliminating several differences. Reads the PFI and DMI areas like an official disk. Tells the 360 that everything on a burned disk is written in the right place, even though it's not. Does not allow the 360 to read the "this is a recordable DVD-R" information on the disk. Etc.

FW Stealth: Causes any attempt to dump the firmware, to dump an original firmware instead, so the 360 can't read your modded firmware.

Just remember, don't ever tell any of your customers that the firmware is "risk free" on live, because no one ever said that, no matter how much you wish it was true.

Thanks for your answers.

Somehow confusing, that a lot of people are working on stealth media & firmware, and that customers then, always take risks when playing online.

It's not that confusing:

The risk is LESS with stealth, because it's MUCH harder to find.

But it's not 100 percent impossible,

so it's never called "safe".

Costomers of such things need to take responsibility for their own risks.

and on that note i dont think anybody has been banned yet but surely once you hear one person who has updated a particular game mandatory live update and/or for the dash to get on live and starts complaining you'll be sure to hear a lot more coming that way.
