I've had a couple of Hitachi 0078fk, it gets detected in dos but not in windows unlike all other previous versions.  I use the Xecuter kit set to mode b with SiS sata chipset.  DgrMouse did your PC detect the drive under Windows? What Sata chipset do you use, and how did you extract the FW? Anyone else has other useful info to share?

Mine did not work under windows I have a Silicon chip I used the Xecuter Kit.

Here is my drive

Uh-oh, that sounds scary.  Looks like a new project for the Hitachi fw hackers.

In the xboxhacker forum Birdy was talking about that he made hitachi detection patch for linux kernel 2.7 so maybe that will help.. Also someone needs to port all the hitachi tools to linux too..no more detecting drive in windows crap and linux is much better to do scripting than windows.. biggrin.gif

If MS is smart, they would have made sure that Hitachi remove the "debug" checking of the
eject line on the outside pin via the power line, making the Team-X kit and the "cross-wire"
way of putting the drive into ModeB non-operation.

I have the same problem.  I am going to try using the slax cd to boot from first.  I have heard this works quite well, but I can't seem to get a good copy of the iso

The Slax CD needs to be the modded one with the ModeB command in it.

The MD5 for it is:  5F 42 F6 72 0F 0F 3E D2 FE EF A8 AF DA BD CF 0A

And the SIZE of "live-cd.iso" is 51.4 MB (53,901,312 bytes)

Also the Slax CD does not work with all SATA motherboards, and best
if the ports are set to Native or IDE mode or Non-RAID.

Well, I can tell you know it looks like it doesn't work with via 8237 or nforce4.  I think I'm going to invest in a Sil sata add-on card i think.  People seem to be having nothing but success with that card
