Why Doesnt My New V59 Drive Eject?

well join the club with the rest of us.

I swear this is firmware related but.. you didn't by any chance do the wire trick backwards at some point did you?   have to ask.

cyclops69: This isn't a bad firmware flash, it's a fudged 2-wire by using the wrong points on the power plug.  Are you sure you can fix that?  I didn't think you could.

The reason I asked is cos when I flashed my 59DJ with Birdy, the drive responded showed the correct status in the dashboard but would never eject.
I then recovered my drive and it works properly now.

Hope caster learned his lesson.  Kids, don't smoke weed when doing the 2-wire.  You DON'T want a slower reaction time when doing that  laugh.gif

ok so here's the deal. in my dashboard it says open tray.. close tray when i hit the eject button but nothing happens. if i manually open it and insert a disk nothing happens either.  if i power it with the tray open, it doesnt close. so my question is.. is it firmware related or is it related with the cross wire done reversed??

and can it be fixed if it was one or the other?

Ok.. heres the truth and you kinda have proved it again.  As I have also i am affraid to say.

Anyway..  Mine was even worse mine worked for 1 day afterward.

I did it backwards.. and usually I believe people have done it more than once backwards..
meaning it did not put it in mode b the first time.. so they try again.!  then MAYBE realize what they have done.

I realized what I did.. and flashed away the correct way..
again worked for one day until i turned it on and boom eject would not work.
so luckily I did a restore with OPA's 2.1 which had errors of course durring the process and would be in a continuous loop trying to restore the flash again and again.

each time it was a error in a different sector.
Then OPA has stated JUNE 2006 59DJ drives will report errors and continue to loop. It is ok to exit out of loop once completed with errors. it will be ok.  It is a simple different checksum (firmware is different in bytes somehow??)

Anyway I did and boom still no eject..and NOW error 64 on screen!!
and now windows does not recognize no matter what.!!
And I mean no matter what!  Bios still sees of course.

So I purchase a new drive.. samsung ms25 insert key from original file opa created... which "should" be good.  and tried it out.

THE DRIVE DID NOT WORK!  xbox would boot but now no more error 64 so the key is correct but it would still not eject!   but no error anymore thats good.

In the long run... it ALSO turned out to be the motherboard...
it seemes    12v to the eject pin multiple times if not just once can fry the eject on motherboard??

I believe this is alot of peoples problems also.. or they will soon find out anyway.
I also half way believe OPA's RESTORE on hitachi JUNE 2006 59DJ's also has a problem.  But I am not sure I hear of ALOT of problems after people do the restore.

All in all it always boils down to doing the trick backwards?  its pretty hard to read though because more than half fail to admit they did it backwards?

ok done with my test. ive open another 360 tested its working dvd drive with my other 360 and it ejects fine. Then i swapped my bricked drive to my working 360 and it doesnt eject.

So in conclusion is indeed my dvd thats fried. not motherboard.

i can get my drive to modeb , able to flash a new key to a certain sector. but cant get it to eject. im even able to restore it.  When i try flashing it with gary opa 2.1 , its never able to finish it. it either get stuck in step 3 sometimes in step 4. even in the 1st step. any thoughts?

i know for sure my eject failure function is fw related. is there a way to flash a certain sector and maybe fix it. like i said im able to flash sectors but when using opa it freezes on 4th or 5th step.

Yeah - read my post above or search here or on xbh for my thread related to this subject and you'll see the tests i went through.  It is not fw related, i can assure you that.

Mike  I feel for you man..

I do not think anyone is going to be able to help you any more than people already have.
you AND I and many others have the exact same type of problems depending on what drives etc etc.

I replaced my drive with a samsung from etch4sale.com   THEY ARE 95$!!  which for a samsung in my opinion is cheap compared to anywhere else around.
They sent a ms25 with chrome bevel.  Great deal!

QUOTE(caster420 @ Sep 29 2006, 05:26 PM) View Post

If you read my post above, i stated it can be fixed by swapping mn10 chips with another hitachi drive.  I dont have the links off hand but i will find them later today.  Desoldering and resoldering the mn10 is a real bitch unless you're good at it and you need another board to pull one off of so you might as well buy a new drive.  Keep the hitachi around, someone may find a fix.

Caster.

caster ive found ur post at xbh but i dont have any idea on how to switch them. Do u think u can provide a tutorial with pics. ive search the entire internet for a tutorial on this subject and cant find one. any help from anybody will be greatly appreciated. like i said i have 2 hitachis, one bricked by restoring wrong sector (stealth) and one fried by crossing wires reversed. so getting another board wont be a problem. still not sure which mn10 chip to switch. dont even know wat mn10 controls on a drive.

drive A: v47
bricked from flashing. (cant get to mode b, cant eject, can do anything)

drive B: v59
bricked from cross wire reversed. (able to go to mode b, able to flash)
cant eject

not sure if u can do a switch with different drive versions.
