you have a good point but i am one of those who beleive if microsoft could do somthing they would have allready i bet the next thing is there will be a charge for the new sammy firmware that reads single layer discs

"If they could do something, they would have already" probably doesn't apply here. MS certainly can't afford to rush. They wouldn't want to create new security gaps, or put out something half-assed... making later versions an open book.

The big-name fw guys have all said that ms CAN do this DVDR-check if they take the time and build it right.

DVD-R check technology in games is probably around the corner. We sure don't know that it's not.

This is simply not worth buying without media stealth.

I agree that the next thing we see will probably be paid sammy firmware.  All these sudden simultanious delays *are* kind of coincidental, I must admit. Right as each fw is about to be "perfected", it's pay time. Do you think maybe this... was planned for some time?

let me tell ya how this is going to work... He is charging yup indeed... good for him, how long do you all honestly think its going to take now for either someone BUY the program and donate it to gary or someone and then him instead of ripping off his program just see how its made and compile his own? or how long do you think its going to take till you see this cracked and on torrents?

those are pretty realistic thoughts considering people are and were donating xbox's and drives to gary to get this firmware hacked.. you can bet your ass its just a madder of times

For those of you living stateside, you better go get your 360's if you dont allready have one. I have begun to see constant 78's. Within the last few weeks I went from not seing one at all to seing around 10. So while I was at several local retailers I started checking the manufacture dates and all were made after July. So I hope we get a "free" release of new fw soon. and for the mojo in mejico, ill smuggle you into the united states if you will work in my sweatshop flashing 360s all day and night lol smile.gif jerk... thats fucked up hes trying to charge

I've just picked up a replacement 360 (mine was having issues ejecting the tray when the console is vertical) - its a 2006-04-01 with a Hitachi. What is strange however is that the back of the case is slightly off (a few mm's). So I do wonder if someone took it apart, but the sticker is still on it. This is my 4th 360 now and it's getting ridicilous. It could be the console had been dropped. It makes a rattle when shook lightly - slightly OT - but do all 360's do that? (Edit: Found thats it's a feature for deciding if the console is vertical/horizontal).

I've noticed they have changed the packaging slightly too - new games and accessories on the box. I hope it's not M$ repackaging returned consoles into newer boxes.

At this rate I will have to swap it again in six months and then I will be waiting for the hack for the built-in HD-DVD drive (you know that's going to happen no matter what MS says - same for the bigger HDD).

On a side note, I would be willing to start a fund for GaryOpa to buy what he needs to crack the 78's.  I am sure many of us would chip in $1US each for the cause.  That way he can buy maximus's product, or whatever he needs.

Im in - i can give a bit of cash to the cause -

i think what we are seeing is a move away from the forums to private chat rooms on irc for the people that matter i think we will find there has been more than just maximus involved in developing this for the v78 all the people crying for other parties to bring this release out i think may end up a bit dissapointed as they are allready probably involved and getting some benefits from it.

An hour ago a random person replied to the YouTube video with:

"No its not. Its been confirmed real, Iriez talked to Maximus hes selling it and not releasing it to public just yet because he bricked 2 360's in the process of making the software. But it is very much real smile.gif."

So apparantly this Maximus guy wants money for it to replace his bricked 360's in making this. It seems plausible. Still shady as hell. I don't know if we'll see this firmware released publically anytime soon. Sure someone could 'buy' it and spread it to the public but who would spend that kind of money in the first place?

I'm going to go back up to Best Buy today and see if I can find a pre-August 360 up there. If they don't, well, I'll just have to patiently wait to be able to flash my 78. I really wish I could just pop-in my Hitachi 47 without needing the key from the 78.

Oh well.

I don't know how much an Xbox360 is in Mexico but I'm sure that he could have lowered the price, get more people to buy and still get money back for the 360's.  Guess he is afraid if he puts it too cheap one will buy it and distribute it immediately.  Anyways, I've returned my xbox twice and still end up with a 0078 so I'll be patiently waiting.

I just wish there was a way to tell the manufacturing date from the sealed box (not console).  It is such a pain to go to the store, buy a system, go home, open it up, see it has a very recent manufacturing date, go back to the store and return it for a new one, and repeat until you get an older one.
I just got a 78fk and I am not looking forward to going back and forth to the store many times trying to come up with an excuse for the exchange besides "This one has the crappy drive in it".

there is, that little cardboard flap on the back pops up and you can clearly see the date. they call the flap a window, and they call the process of finding an older one "window shopping"

Good point about Maximus just asking for donations. How about someone contact him and ask if he'll just take donations instead of pulling this $200+ crap?

Just wanted to let all of you know that he has agreed to go public. He will obviously have to rewrite the code to remove all of the registry stuff, so dont expect it today, but should be out rather quickly.

I definitly agree that he should get donations...he has spent alot of hard work on the project, and DID kill two 360's in the process. So, if your feeling generous, be sure to give him a heads up.

Man, now I just wanna buy a new 360 hoping to get a 78fk.. Just to try it out.. wink.gif

Absolutely awesome news!

I just hope it's as easy as in the video. Also, I will wait for a few confirmed reports it works... I don't want to brick my not-even-24-hour-old shiny new Xbox 360!

If it works, I'll donate.
