Help Hitachi-lg Gdr-3120l - Rom Version: 0078fk ?

Great I got it working in Windows with the Slax cd and the xecuter Kit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  the only problem I had was booting windows after the loading screen the screen went black so I pressed the eject putton on the xecuter kit and windows started.
I'm not going to get the was.bin  until I here from garyopa I don't want to risk stuffing up the xbox.

I tried the Xecuter again and the drive did not show up in Windows sad.gif

I ran the slax cd again and this time I did not have to eject the drive.... all working in Windows again. biggrin.gif

I can't even get the slax cd to run properly.  I keep getting arrors of missing files, and it doesn't matter where I 'obtain' the iso from

You should be able to get the FW using the memdump util.  All included in OPA autoflasher.  Just read the batch file and type the commands in that dump to the 'was.bin' file

Looking good, just dump the firmware now, you can either run our package or just type in the
X-LG directory the following command

"memdump E 12200 8 8000 was.bin"

Replacing the E in the above example with the correct drive letter which windows has assigned
with your drive.

sometimes on windows startup you need to press eject on the drive to boot into windows.

I have tried on a via 8237 and a nforce4.  Both would pick up the drive, but neither would see it in windows.  Not sure, but I think I might have to re-install windows.  Although, ever other drive I have tried, it has worked no problems, and I have flashed at least 50 drives, both sammy's and hitachi's

Do you have an older Hitachi around so you can see if that works?

It might take a little longer as it so far noone has been able to get a dump of the firmware.

If MS is smart, they would have redone the READ code to stop a total dump of the firmware.

Much like Maximus did on the Stealth firmware.

He changed the READ function to return original Bytes instead of xtreme bytes.

I am sure MS has thought of the same idea, and changed the READ function

To use other values, so the "12200" address Trick most likely will not work anymore.

Hi all,
Just an FYI I purchased a 360 yesterday. Opened it up last night and was greeted by the dreaded 0078fk  dry.gif

I am also in Australia like foaley77. It seems these drives will get more and more common as XMAS desends upon us so GaryOPA .... We need your help! I'm sure you'll love the new challenge hopefully no soldering will be required like some of the new Sammys.

Mmmm hopefully the kids don't scratch my discs too much till you figure it out ...  jester.gif

Thanks.

I hope someone down-under has a external eeprom programmer and good rework soldering station,
so they can remove the flash chip and read it externally, as it seems MS has patched the "memdump"
from working correctly.

Gary would you have to do this for every 0078 F/W or could you make a program so it would just read like the normal ones?

Wonder how long it will be till America and Canada get these drives.
