You Might Find This Usefull
« on: September 23, 2006, 08:05:00 AM »

I have one x360 with a hitachi drive latest garyopa firmware v47 i made all my backups using a pioneer 111 and verbatims, which wouldnt work i went onto datawrites which would just about read,
I then tweaked the pot down to 2.8 ohms from 3.6 but still the games would freeze more often than not in frustration i wripped out a samsung dvd drive out of one of my comps and took the laser out tweaked it to 2.9 now it will read everydisc i throw at it and never freezes.

So any one having real problems reading discs just swop the lazer out some are definately better than others.

Absolutely not what made me check was i have a Samsung SH-D162C The drive for kreons firmware  for backing up discs and that lazer will fit also I would have used that but the drive took some finding and the other drive only cost $20 which is a lot cheaper than a replacement lens Ive tried 6 backups for about an hour a time and not one hick up.

Maybe there should be something stickied about this with a list of compatible drive lasers?

You know that most major manufactures usually use compatible parts to make cost cuts in production, most car manufacturers also do the same thing  this is not unusual use google and i read this somewhere else about some guy using a alternate samsungdriveflashed kreon0-8 and was fine with no hitch

haha.. the funny thing is I had that as my dvd-rom drive but took it out to install my kreon drive.. I'll open up my 616 and try the laser out when I have time and report back.

If anybody is interested here goes a pic of the laser

(IMG:http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/4301/laservk9.jpg)

And guess what? The part number is SF-HD67 so it's the exact same part number as our 360's laser. So if you guys have one of these drives lying around or if you can get it for cheap then here you go!

COOL!

Probably U won't find one of these on the market right now... it would be cool to know if newer (samsung?) drives still have a LASER that might fit the 360 hitachi/samsung drives.

I find this very interesting as an actual  DVD drive (could) cost less than a replacement LASER and is readily available at any store, so U don't have to wait for parts and save money on ordering online.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
