Need Help With Failed Firmware Hack Attempt
« on: September 22, 2006, 05:12:00 AM »

I know for a fact that I've managed to successfully back up my firmware because i had to reflash it to the system and that all went perfectly.  I think the problem I'm having is patching the firmware properly.

What i did was open the original firmware in KDX1.5-by-F360TEAM, extract the unique code and apply it to the xtreme33 firmware all using that program.  (I really dont wanna use a hex editor as I have no experience in it at all) I think its possible I misunderstood the guide im using...

QUOTE
Getting Your Key:

Now that we have the firmware, we need to extract the Key out of it

so we can inject it into the hacked firmware. This process will be done with

KDX v1.5 (KDX1.5-by-F360TEAM). Run KDX1.5.exe and press "Open Firmware". Select a copy of your ORIG.BIN file you created earlier. The DVD key will be displayed in the DVD Key box. Highlight and copy it. Now press "Open Firmware" again and select the hacked firmware (XTREME.BIN or possibly XTREME_PROPER.BIN). It must be a patched version of the original hacked firmware. Now press "Save Firmware" and save your modified hacked firmware to wherever you like and call it MODIFIED.BIN. Not a bad idea to back that up to a few places too!

QUOTE
Reflashing Your Drive:

The last step is writing the firmware to your DVD-Drive. This will be done with MTKFLASH.EXE again. If you

Usea a floppy disk just put the hacked firmware you just made on the same

Floppy. Make sure you put on the one you just modified with your Key!

Reboot the PC following the same procedure you did to backup your original firmware. At the prompt type:

A:> mtkflash w /m Xtreme30.bin

(If you are not using a floppy change directory to wherever you put the files)

Press Enter and proceed as before.

If you did everything all right your Xbox360 will now read all correctly made backups.

Now i tried flashing both a blank xtreme33 firmware and the modified.bin as the guide didnt make things very clear.  So anyone got any ideas what noobish thing im doing wrong here?

Edit: oh and this is a samsung btw (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Oh and it detected originals as dvd videos with bad modded firmware loaded if that also maks a difference. (or is that how a borked firmware always detects it?)

DO NOT USE KDX!!

^^ That's for the people who find this thread who have a similar problem.

KDX is crap.  You messed up your drive key in the modded firmware.  Use X360SAM (included in the 3.3 firmware release) or hex-edit the drive key into Xtreme manually.

Just make sure you have about a dozen backups of your original firmware.  Emailing it to yourself is the best idea.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)   Good deal, glad it worked for you.

What did you end up using?  X360SAM or hex-edit?
