Error "port:9f0, Master/salve:a0"
« on: September 17, 2006, 06:03:00 PM »

I'm not sure where the problem is so I'm going to strat from the beginning. I'm trying to use the Toshiba-Samsung_360_Auto_Flasher_v3.2, from #xbins, to flash my TS-H943A DVD drive. I created a bootable USB memory stick and copied all the files from Toshiba-Samsung_360_Auto_Flasher_v3.2 winrar archive to the USB stick.

When I boot up my PC, my BIOS reads:

SATA3: TSSTcorpDVD-ROM TS-H943A ms25 SATA

So it appears to be detecting the Xbox360 drive. Once its gets into to DOS i get the menu asking me to choose which SATA connection type I'm using. I choose #4 because I'm using a nForce4 chipset. Then I get this msg:

"To avoid problems with HDD's and optical drives on your PC, it is best to echo disconnect them"

press Control + C to cancel
press any key to continue

I wasn't quite sure what that meant so I turned off my IDE DVD drives in my BIOS.

Once I press any key to continue I get this error:

"port: 9f0, master/slave: a0"

I searched the forums here and on xboxhacker.net for some other ppl with the same problems but no one ever posted a solution.

I've been doing mods for the original xbox, psp, and PSone for years, but this is my first attempt at an Xbox 360. Any info would be helpful.

Heres my system specs:

AMD Athlon64 3000+
Epox 8NPA SLI mobo
on-board nForce 4 SATA chipset (4 SATA ports)
2 WD Raptors HDs running RAID 0
Maxtor 300GB SATA

Xbox360 DVD-ROM:
TS-943A
f/w=ms25
h/w:005   Ver.A
March 2006

Just so you know, my winxp installation is running on my RAID 0 array. Will I lose my anything if disable raid on the 2 ports that those HDs are connected to? RAID is disabled on the other 2 ports.

Ok, I disabled RAID on all my ports and disconnected all other drives in my PC. Once I get into DOS I typed "samread 123456 12345" I then get the option to choose which SATA port then I power off the xbox360 and turn it back on. Then no matter if I choose 1 or 2, I still get the same error.

Does anyone know why the LED on the xbox360 start flashing? Could I have already bricked my drive?

Have you tried manually hex-editing MTKFlash?  Maybe the included NF4 chipset doesn't work for everybody.

Alright, I used Grim's guide to edit my mtkflash.exe file. Its been awhile since I've had to hex edit so I'm not sure if I did it right. I did follow Grim's guide exactly though. The question I had was concerning inserting my chipset's hex values. I used the mtkflash.exe from the mtkflash.nf4.rar, so when I opened it I found the NV nforce section no problem. There where several other chipset listed above it, but only one NV nforce. From what I understand, my hex value should end right at the 00 before "NV nforce". 2 of bytes where the same but the rest of them were different. So I inserted my key, DE10 5400 f009 7009. I saved the file and copied it back to my USB memory stick and tried again. I still got the same error though.....

When I ran msinfo32 it shows 2 SATA controller components(SATA 3 & 4, I think). I'm assuming that its not showing the other 2 because they're setup for RAID (SATA 1 & 2). I the got my hex values from the 1st controller, which I'm assuming is SATA 3. Either way, I still tried all of the SATA ports and got the same error.

Also, should I be using x360sam or the samsung autoflasher?

Thanks Textbook for helping me out...

Under Advanced Chip Features in your bios make sure that All Spread Spectrum options are enabled
Under  Integrated Peripherals (chipset IDE devices) diable raid on sata 1-4, and make sure that sata 1&2 are enabled but disable 3&4.

It's also important that you are not overclocking your processor or memory as this can cause problems

good luck  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

In my BIOS the only options for SATA spread spectrum is donwspread or disabled. My CPU spread spectrum options are center spread or disabled. By default they are all set to disabled. I tried changing those but it didn't make a difference.

I disabled RAID on all ports and disabled SATA 1&2. My xbox360 drive is connected to SATA port 4 so I left 3&4 enabled.

Will the hex values I entered into the mtkflash.exe change if I use a different SATA port. I thought it might so I ran msinfo32 again and got the hex values from the last SATA controller. Then I edited the a new mtkflash.exe and inserted the new hex values. I still got the same error, but it said 970 instead of 9f0.

I forgot to mention that I am not overclocking.

I also took a screen shot of my msinfo32 and mtkflash.exe (opened with the hex editor), if that would help

Alright, I just disabled all IDE and SATA ports, except SATA 1&2. I unplugged all drives and plugged my xbox360 drive into SATA 1. When I get to the DOS prompt and type "samread 123456 12345" I get the "no drives detected" error. It doesn't give me the option to choose which drive/port. The drive is detected in the BIOS though....

I searched the forums for the correct hex values and it looks like I have the proper values for an nForce4 mobo.

I also tried using XtremeBootMaker.0.2.2 but it wouldn't detect my chipset.

Can someone please help me out....or point me in the direction of a good tutorial?

ok, leave the 360 plugged into SATA1 (Don't switch it on)
set SATA spread spectrum to donwspread
set CPU spread spectrum to center spread

Get to the msdos prompt and type "MTKFLASH R /M /SATA ORIG.BIN"
switch the x360 on
then straight away press enter on your pc keyboard
it should now flash.

If not try doing it again just increasing the gap between switching on the 360 and pressing enter on your keyboard  (usually between 10 & 15 seconds works a lot of the time for some drives)

Sorry it's not possible to flash any samsung drive with a sillicon image chipset, I would suggest you get a sata pci card with the VIA chipset (VIA VT6421, VIA VT6421A ,VIA VT6421L)

Thanks for the info Sharky...

I ended up borrowing a PC from work with an Intel chipset. I was still having problems though. So I got on efnet and checked out the #fw channel. It turned out that all I needed to do was add /sata switch to the mtkflash command. Once I figured that out I just edited the x360sam BAT files to add the /sata switch to the mtkflash commands. I haven't tried on my PC, with nforce4, but I'll probably give it a try when I get home.

Just a suggestion....but the next x360sam release might want to include the /sata switch  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
