Ts Firmware Method For Ms-28 Without Soldering
« Reply #15 on: September 10, 2006, 09:57:00 PM »

Bearded bob,

I found another post that indicated  using IO ports 1 and 3 to get the 2nd 1/2 of the code if there is not a 7 byte difference.

In that case the code for yours would be  06 11 49 32 00 B4 00 B8

PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&50

0x0000B400-0x0000B40F
0x0000B800-0x0000B80F
0x0000BC00-0x0000BC0F
0x0000C000-0x0000C00F
0x0000C400-0x0000C41F
0x0000C800-0x0000C8FF
IRQ 18
viamraid.sys (5.1.2600.520

Also .. don't forget;

Turn off the Xbox 360 and PC.
Connect the SATA cable from the MS28 drive to the PC
Leave a PC CD or DVD drive on one of the IDE channels
Turn on the PC but leave the 360 off.
When you get to your command prompt turn 360 on.
Type in mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin  hit enter
It should display your ports. Do NOT select anything, just leave it at this "menu"
Turn off your 360.
Select the port the 360 was connected to
It will "pause"
Count to ten
Turn on the 360
It should start reading automatically

Thanks guys for your info but I managed to crack it, here’s what I did to help out anyone else who is having the same problem as I couldn’t find much out about it.

What I used.

X360SAM 4.0
XTREME32.bin
MTKFlash
Hex Editor
VIAVT6421 PCI
USB Pen Drive Kingston

I had to play around with my IDE channels on my board and left IDE 0 Enabled with a NEC DVD-RW Connected, and IDE 1 Disabled along with my RAID. I didn't have to leave a CD/DVD in the drive either worked with it just connected. the Xbox was fully connected but just powered down. If i got this error "(port 170 master/slave a0)" then I found that to be because I wasn't using the correct port on me PCI SATA Card when I changed it over I got the correct Port B400 error.

The Config error is caused but me turning on the xbox to early and crashing the buffer, I had to wait until just a split second before the C:\ appeared before I turned on the Xbox360 then if I could type in the prompt it was ok if not I would get that error and have to start over again.

The lines that I used to Hex edit my MTKFlash were

PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&50

0x0000B400-0x0000B40F
0x0000B800-0x0000B80F
0x0000BC00-0x0000BC0F
0x0000C000-0x0000C00F
0x0000C400-0x0000C41F <----- This one
0x0000C800-0x0000C8FF <----- this one

So the number was I put into the MTKFlash.exe was :-

06 11 49 32 00 C4 00 C8

Once I had the Xbox360 powered on and at the C:\ I then typed SAMREAD xxxxxxx xxxx pressed return and got 2 options I then powered down the Xbox360

Then I tuned the Xbox360 back and striaght after I pressed my option which was 2 VIA6421, it would then read and detect.

If I missed that it wouldn't work and I would get Port b400 blar blar error and it would wait at that screen. “If this happens power down the Xbox360 and Try again”

Once I had the SAMREAD orig.bin I could turn off the xbox and then had to create the HACKED.bin manually using X360SAM.exe as the SAMREAD wouldn't create the HACKED.bin even with the XTREME32.bin installed.

Once I had this I then ran SAMHACK where I had to do the same method as discribed in SAMREAD e.g The same trick regarding timing and powering on.

After that It was all done !! :-) Wahhoooo

the MS=25 was easier to detect.... I've also done Hitachi drive which I found to be less of a pain. :-)

Any problems PM me.

To save yourself some trouble, you can just use this mtkflash for VIA chipsets:

I'm not sure, I did try alot of MTKFlashvia that people had created and in the end I made my own which worked out ok that could just be down to me finding the timing correct and that the others might have worked also.

What I did notice is that when the 2 options come up after running SAMREAD that sometimes there were saying different VIA sets depending on the MTKFlash used and that it wasn't the version I required, when I created the one explained above all went well and it said Option 2 VIA VT6421, I did download another MTKFlash which had this option but at the time I didn't manage to get it to read, could just have been me.

When I looked over the HEx the bottom 2 where the only ones that really fitted what poeple were trying to explain as from that driver you will notice that the output is different to any examples/tuts.

I also found that different VIA Drivers gave me different MSINFO outputs so the link from llsTixll might work but if the output is different e.g the Hex value they used doesn't match yours it might not work? I'm not 100% sure it matters but I did notice that the VIA MTKFlash do have different options depending on your Hex entery, to be 100% sure its best to create your own MTKFlash IMO.

Bearded bob,

Now that your drive is flashed, have you had any issues with playing originals? Some people have reported freezing..

Need a little help here...could not find this in a post anywhere. I have the VIA 6421 sata card. I use the NTFSDos cd. Everything goes fine until I start flashing the drive.

I type samread -
1. The flashing either stops at 1 %
2. Errors out stating fatal point error
3. Flashes telling me I can turn off my xbox or restart my computer.

When this happens, it creates the orig file at 1 kb, not 256kbs. I cannot get past this point. Anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks
