Just a quick run-down of the pieces parts involved with this successful mod. Total time spent to successfully flash drive - about 1 hour. Amount of time spent before my dumb ass set my Booktype on my burner to DVD-ROM and make a good backup - an additional 5 hours and 4 coasters. Total time from start to successfully playing Dead Rising backup on my 360 - 6 hours.. (IMG:

Hardware:- Xbox 360 with Hitachi/LG version 59DJ firmware
- Fabricated plastic case openers (made per the guide)
- Appropriate TORX bit and handle
- ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard (BIOS Rev 1023)
- Onboard Intel 8201ER SATA RAID Controller set to SATA mode in the BIOS (Not RAID mode)
- SATA Cable that came with motherboard
- LITE-ON SHM-165H6S DVDRW Drive with HS0D Firmware (used to burn backups)
- Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL media (used to burn backups)
- CD-ROM with SLAX 360 image burned to it (Boot PC with it to set Hitachi to Mode B )
Software:- OPA Xtreme v2.0 and v2.1 Hitachi-LG Firmware 7in1 package (applied using in WinXP)
- SLAX 360 (used to put Hitachi 59DJ in Mode B for flashing)
**NOTE: Did not make it to Login prompt but did set drive to mode B (verified by 2 x Eject press test)**
- Windows XP OS used to apply the Firmware update
- DVDInfoPro v4.615 (Used to bitset LITE-ON SHM165H6S Booktype to DVD-ROM) *very fricking important*
- CloneCD v5.2.1.9 (Used to burn backup images)
It took me awhile but I followed the latest guide for Hitachi/LG drives and the readme that was included with the 7in1 package and it went almost perfect. (The flashing went perfect anyway (IMG:

My biggest upset was the 4 coasters I made by being a dumbass and not reading the guides throughly enough and not setting my burner to BOOKTYPE DVD-ROM. I was so pissed when I tried the 2 backups I made and neither worked. I started second guessing the flash and really could not find an easy way to verify that it took beyond the COMPLETE message at the end of the flashing. So I started scouring the forums and found one that said to make sure and set the Booktype to DVD-ROM. After doing a bit of research via Google I found that DVDInfo Pro will allow you to set the booktype on most drives as long as the drive's firmware supports bitsetting. I even found that LITE-ON has a tool (for their drives) as well if you search their site you can find it in the utilities section. Once I set my booktype to DVD-ROM with DVDInfoPro and then burned at 2.4x with CloneCD I had a working backup. The next 4 backups I made were also successful. I am one happy mofo. As another side note - some burners will permanently set the booktype to DVD-ROM and others (like mine) have to be set every time you boot up. As long as you don't shut the system down you can continue to burn with Booktype set to DVD-ROM.
So don't be a dumass like me - after you successfully flash your drive DO NOT FORGET TO SET YOUR BURNER TO BOOKTYPE DVD-ROM.
Any questions - please post. Any comments about me being a dumbass... go ahead - i deserve it.. (IMG:
