Hey, anyone else having trouble with the attract movie scene being jerky when playing a backup copy of Lord Of The Rings, The Battle For Middle Earth with this firmware update? In some of the scenes mine would pause for a second, before continuing to play. It only does it with this game and with the Samsung drives. This was tested on two other Samsung drives, and did the same thing. The same backup played in the Hitachi drives plays flawless.:  unsure.gif

Don't post often, but just had to say thanks to C4e for v3.2. I thought I'd convinced myself I was happy with the slow loads of my backups, but this has proved how wrong I was.

Thanks again.

All the cinemas on LOTR: BFME2 skip for me regardless of Xtreme FW version (including 3.2). POT setting, Media brand (I have tried FujiFilm and Verbatim), and burn speed. My backup attempts all play flawlessly on my friend's Hitachi also.

So let me get this straight, the 3.2 firmware speeds up the drive to read at 12x like the originals, but what im not getting is I know the originals read slower than that sometimes, then speed up to 12x.  Is that what backups do with 3.2 or do they read at a constant 12x??? and is the 3.2 firmware possibly going to make our drives go bad? debating on whether to upgrade from 1.0 to 3.2?

For all you guys having issues, it's normally due to Media, which has been said 20 times or so ALL READY!  I use memorex, verbatim, ridata, and ricoh (frys dvd+r dl media) and they all work fine on my Sammy w/ 3.2 firmware.  I didn't have any issues using 1.0 or 2.0, and 3.2 has shown a huge difference in load times.  When I boot up burnout, it loads just as fast as my original.  Also, I burn with a Pioneer 109/111D and a Lite-On slim laptop burner, and no issues from any of those.  So, it is definitely the media and how you burn it.  Also, when you do burn a game, please DO NOT do anything else on that machine, it just helps the process.

There are 2 parts to your answer.
Is it safe to play back ups online, SAFE?  Don't know about safe, but yes, you can play back ups online.
MS might implement something in the future to ban your system from live, if you can live with that, than play on live, if not, DON'T, it's really quite simple.

As for the firmware stealth, I believe this fw is made to "look" like the original firmware.  MS can still check/update anything they want, in the future...

But if you conduct a search, you'd know this too.

The notes for version 3.0 show the stealth patch implemented. Does this make backups safe to play on Live?

Nice to see you mastered the art of sarcasm after only having been here a month. If you'd taken two seconds to look at my id, you'd notice I've been here 3 yrs and only posted a couple dozen times because I DO SEARCH and I DO READ and very rarely have questions. And since you have nothing but vague sarcasm for an answer perhaps you should have just left it alone. Now since my broadband is being upgraded and I'm stuck on dial-up and pages take forever to load, does anyone have a more pleasant insight into my question?

The disc will look like an original to M$ when on XBL but the firmware is another matter. smile.gif

i dont know for sure, but logically i would say it would be a hardware issue with the burnt media.  perhaps the hitachi can read better from burnt media than the samsung.  ive heard people say that alot about that game, has anyone tried it on the new firm?

Great firmware! I had a problem with booting backups with XTreme 3.0 (50% chance for a 'dirty disc' message, even with the POT tweak and '20 seconds' trick, .... timeout during reading the ss?) Now the booting rate is 100% and no problems found  biggrin.gif

Thanks, I didn't know if it masked the firmware itself or just the disc.

The firmware is masked to a certain extent.  If Microsoft were to do a checksum verification on the firmware of your drive, it will report identical to the original.  Their only other alternative to checking the firmware, as I understand it, is to download the entire firmware off of your console and check it from there.  If they were to do this, it would be obvious that it was hacked.  The chances of microsoft downloading firmware from 1000's of consoles is very unlikely, however.  This is why the media stealth is considered by most to be the more relevant of the two stealth options.  If microsoft ever chooses to ban anyone from XBL, it will most likely be through a media check as it is far less intrusive and just as effective.

I'm no expert, but I'm just stating my opinion based on observations and common sense.

Hi guys.

I update to 3.2, Samsung, and I burn my games in a Pionner 111D, Ridata media.

It really load faster, but sometimes it makes a "break noise" and the CGs stop for 1 sec. then the drive starts to loading again, slowly.

This noise appears to force the drive somehow, its very strange. I notticed some guys are having the same problem. Is it really a problem or its normal? Can be the POT regulation?

Detail: I dont use labels  wink.gif

Thanks and sorry for the poor english.
