Hex Editing For 6421l Chipset Please Assist?
« on: August 10, 2006, 12:08:00 PM »

Hi,

I have a samsung xbox 360 drive I have bought this vt 6421l chipset raid pci card by Creative I/O ( sy-via-150r ):

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...Y_BIN_Stores_IT

I have followed the instructions for hex editing mtkflash up to a certain point:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?ref...t=mtkflash+edit

Have run MSinfo32.exe

Have got the:

Read out

Name   VIA VT6421 RAID Controller
Manufacturer   VIA Technologies, Inc.
Status   OK
PNP Device ID   PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&60
I/O Port   0x00009400-0x0000940F
I/O Port   0x00009000-0x0000900F
I/O Port   0x00008800-0x0000880F
I/O Port   0x00008400-0x0000840F
I/O Port   0x00008000-0x0000801F
I/O Port   0x00007800-0x000078FF
IRQ Channel   IRQ 16
Driver   c:\windows\system32\drivers\viamraid.sys (5.1.2600.410, 59.25 KB (60,672 bytes), 03/08/2006 18:46)

From the PNP Device ID line I get the two sets of 4 numbers as :
1106 3249
When they've been swapped round they become
06114932

I get stuck when the instructions say:

The Next 4Bytes are Found in 2 Different Lines of "I/O Port" Hex Values, You Want to Identify The 2 Lines That Have a 7Byte Difference, Extract the Last 4 Digits of the First Section of Numbers/Letters from Them and Swap the 2 Bytes (As You did with The "PNP Device ID" Line)

I/O Port 0x00006655-0x00006662
I/O Port 0x00008877-0x00008884

This is Only Known to Work if You Use The 2 "I/O Port" lines With a Difference of 7 in Order (as Shown Above), As They are Values for The Primary Master and Slave SATA Device,
So in this Example Your line Should be 55667788 (Need it Explained Better? Click Here),

I just don't understand which of the lines have a 7Byte difference from my Msinfo.exe readout? Please could you explain? Thank you.

If you do not have a difference for 7 (which you don't)

You can try two things.

1.  Only change the first 4 bytes and do not worry about the rest.

2.   Try 0094 0088 as your last two.

You can also try the MTKflashVia.exe  that is already hexedited for your chipset...

Thanks for your reply. Where can I download the Mtkflashvia.exe.

If I google for "Mtkflashvia.exe download" there is no reference to it.

I've this thread:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/i...hp/t521606.html

where it is referred to as Mtkvia.exe if I google for this it doesn't come up with a download for this. Where can I download this please?

Thanks.

Thanks very much for putting the file up on that server but unfortunately when I click on that link I get a "no hotlinking" error.
http://editedmtkflash.741.com/mtkflashvia32.exe]http://editedmtkflash.741.com/mtkflashvia32.exe

Please would it be possible for you to put a link to an html page which is hosted on that server that has a link to that file.

Thanks again.

Which version of mtkflash do you recommend to start hex editing with? I've found versions ranging from 1.55 to 1.83c. Thanks

I"m having the same problem.  The pre-edited mtkflash does not work for me, I belive that it was pre-edited for the card without the raid feature in it.  Mine reads as follows

Name   VIA VT6421 RAID Controller
Manufacturer   VIA Technologies, Inc.
Status   OK
PNP Device ID   PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\4&24B99E98&0&40F0
I/O Port   0x0000ECF0-0x0000ECFF
I/O Port   0x0000ECD0-0x0000ECDF
I/O Port   0x0000ECB0-0x0000ECBF
I/O Port   0x0000EC90-0x0000EC9F
I/O Port   0x0000EC60-0x0000EC7F
I/O Port   0x0000E800-0x0000E8FF
IRQ Channel   IRQ 17
Driver   c:\windows\system32\drivers\viamraid.sys (5.1.2600.410, 59.25 KB (60,672 bytes), 9/6/2006 8:48 PM)

Name   VAX347S SCSI Controller
Manufacturer   (Standard mass storage controllers)
Status   OK
PNP Device ID   PCI\VAX347S\0000
Driver   c:\windows\system32\drivers\vax347s.sys (3.47.0.0 built by: WinDDK, 5.13 KB (5,248 bytes), 1/30/2006 9:26 PM)

I have absolutely no idea what to do since most of my I/O values are letters

Actually, if you read through the famous MTKFLASH thread you will find out that almost 100% edits are the 1st and 3rd I/O lines.

So with this
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&60
I/O Port 0x00009400-0x0000940F
I/O Port 0x00009000-0x0000900F
I/O Port 0x00008800-0x0000880F
I/O Port 0x00008400-0x0000840F
I/O Port 0x00008000-0x0000801F
I/O Port 0x00007800-0x000078FF

you would get 0611493200940088

HERE.   Rename to MTKFlash.exe (erase the via) and use with a normal MTKFlash.typ file.  Good luck!

I've downloaded the mtkflash file, used 2 copies using default settings and then another one using the 1st and 3rd I/O lines of my msinfo32 file. Still it's hanging when a choice of chipsets should come up for you to select i.e. 1.) via 6421

My info is as follows: -

Name VIA VT6421 RAID Controller
Manufacturer VIA Technologies, Inc.
Status OK
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\4&2411F011&0&3890
I/O Port 0x0000DC00-0x0000DC0F
I/O Port 0x0000D880-0x0000D88F
I/O Port 0x0000D800-0x0000D80F
I/O Port 0x0000D480-0x0000D48F
I/O Port 0x0000D400-0x0000D41F
I/O Port 0x0000D000-0x0000D0FF
IRQ Channel IRQ 18
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\viamraid.sys (5.1.2600.410, 59.25 KB (60,672 bytes), 05/09/2006 14:10)

Can someone check it out see where i'm going wrong, I came up with this hex value

0611 4932 00DC 00D8

mtkflash.typ is rename correctly to match mtkflash.exe, also i've tried both mtkflash types mentioned above on both sata ports on the card, still no luck.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Hmm...I'm lost then.  When are you turning on the Xbox 360?  I turn mine on at the command prompt.  Not sure if that would make a difference.  Also, I have the non-raid version of that card.  I'm not sure how you would disable raid on the raid version card, but that should be looked into as well.

That's what I'm thinking...  Lots of people seem to be having trouble with the Raid version of that card.  As far as I know there is no way to turn RAID off on that card either.

I guess I"m gonna look into buying the non-raid version
