Instead of all these chips we should be investigating weather of not the south bridge chip even supports the commands to check firmware.  If they dont then this is a lost cause since ms would never be able to tell if your firmware is patched.

i agree, i would like to know more about this

Well said- None of these companies that are using C4E's knowledge would be happy if their fake modchips were  proven useless ... a nice revenge for C4E definitely

Quite frankly i'd be jumping over the moon in that case.... would be such a strike to M$ ... an undetectable mod to play backups on live , we never managed to do that on Xbox1, so much for all the extra time they invested in impoving the security with next-gen  tongue.gif

Agreed, well said.  I think we should leave that to the people at XBH.  TheSpecialist, C4E, SeventhSon, GaryOpa, Geremia, Arakon, Birdy.  They all know at least something about the firmware and the challenges/responses that are sent.  Maybe I'll start the thread asking about southbridge requests.

Actually, your wrong.  The firmware hacks aren't new.  C4E released one for the Xbox 1 about a month before working on the Xbox 360 drive.  If you have a Samsung SDG-605B drive for the Xbox 1, you can flash the hacked firmware and play backups on Live (on your Xbox 1) without getting banned - same exact thing as the Xbox 360.

I just don't see how people can buy these...they must be stupid and not look at the entire situation.  They offer no advantages over flashing your firmware yourself.  The ONLY advantage of this is that you don't actually have to flash firmware.  So, if you don't have SATA or your chipset is crappy, then I *might* see why one would buy this.  But at $50, why don't you just go and buy a good SATA card instead for ~ $10 ?

OH kool... progress!!!!

I'm sick of my XS rss feed getting clogged with more worthless modchips. There is no point in using a mod chip for the FW hack, do you really think that MS will mass ban 360's? Lets think, MS makes the profit off of the games and accessories because they cost less to manufacture than to produce. If they were to ban 360's from live, people would just buy a second system for their backups, and one for originals, for live. They would be buying core systems, which MS loses even more money off of, since you already have the HDD.

But you say you want the best solution, and you think a chip is gonna be it. Well order the chip, pay $30+ (not sure what they cost)wait 1-2 weeks for it to come. Rip apart your 360, voiding your warranty either way, whip out your soldering iron ($10+), if you have one. Buy some solder ($5), and start soldering the 13+ wires to your ODD. Unless you are a semi-seasoned solder, your most likely gonna splash some on your board, hopefully you don't ruin it.

Or

Hookup your ODD to you mobo, use an auto flasher, be finished within a couple of hours, and thats if you can't get your mobo to recognize the drive. Most you'll be paying is like $5 for a sata cable if you dont have one.

My 2 cents

I know.... but this hack was released when the console nearly reached the end of it's lifespan really... and with xbox360 out, well, who has the dough will get the next-gen, however... my concern at the moment is:

-are we sure that they can't detect the altered dvd Fw or they're just taking notes about the situation getting ready to strike back.... yeah I'm being paranoic but,

well that's my two cents

So with the fractal 360 you just solder it to the dvd drive & then afterwards you can make backups with the drive & play them with no firmware flashing (or do you have to flash the fractal360 first)? Also after installation would you be able to conect the drive to a pc with the xecuter 360 v2 usb connectivity kit (to make backups)?
