I do believe it will work, since you have it laying around that means you have no use for it.  I suggest you flash it, it it does not work, reflash with the OEM firmware.

Saw a few of these drives on ebay before for $42 Aus now all gone and one there for $125 what a rip !!!  
You could just about name your price.

Minor bug fixes, and RPC1 enable.  Read the link HERE!!!  Not worth updating to from 0.5v. But its something if your holding the drive and waiting for a release.

I had ordered two of these drives when this was first announced for 20 bucks each.  Freaking polewaretech.com just emailed me and cancelled my damn order.  Assholes!

I googled and still found plenty in the range of $25 to $40.  I guess I get the drive first then wait for updated software including SS extract. I am lazy

Well as you can see from the above sticker ...the large sticker just says "SH-D162", yet on the small sticker @ the bottom it says "SH-D162C/BSWP"  I dunno if that answers your question or not.

Incidentally, you can flash the firmware in an external USB2.0 enclosure (prevents you from needing to reboot your PC) and you can downgrade flash to the older 0.5 (not sure why you would want to, but I did just to see if I can)

I tried it and the flashing went fine.
Didnt try to backup any games jet, but I guess it shouldnt be a problem since the firmware is correct now.

Response:  Yes.... same problem. The A version hardware isn't identical to the hardware found in the C version

As I allready mentioned the flashing went fine.
I also tried to creat an image using a modified version of Schtrom360XtractV1.0 that works with the sh-d162c and the process went also fine.
Cant test if the backup really works at the moment cause Im still waiting for my connectivity kit to flash my box.

i found that link that appears to be this drive (im from australia, if that wasnt already obvious, lol).

Am i to understand that if the alternative FW mentioned in this topic gains the full functionality that the creator desires, then i would just need this drive, that hack and a Dual Layer DVD burner (in my computer) to make backups? with the ONLY time i need to open up the xbox360 being the very first time i apply a firmware hack to that?

If so, that is EXCELLENT news and the creator of this program deserves respect.

Cause it was a self made modification of a guy from a german xbox forum
