Anybody have tested this method and does it work ? because im scary about open  and modify the dvdrom thanks

I am also curious about this. I really dont want to have to dismantle the dvd drive and i dont want to solder anything either. If this badflash recovery works (even if it takes hours), i'd much MUCH rather that.

Also, with the new xtreme30 firmware, there are no changes to this, correct?

Wow, good find.  I'd like to try it out as well, but all I have is the MS25.

i have followed all info available with no success inc vcc trick. have done 6 others no probs
but cant get this bast*** to dump or read.
plus no one has really confirmed that this version FW has been done, apart from a couple of people. as far as i can see most people seem to be stuck with this version.

any help would be gratefully appreciated

must have spent 20 hours or so trying everything,

Yep.  Or just skip hexediting entirely and use X360SAM instead, I used this on an ms28 last Saturday.

Just so folks know, once you've flashed, if you want to remove the switch you don't need to resolder the resistor.  It's just a zero-ohm link, so a gob of solder across the points will do nicely.

when i switch on xbox without wires touching the green light in the center starts flashing and there is no way pc will recognise it unless wires are touched, i have no problems doing other sammys and hitachi`s, not sure if this matters but drive is dated may 2006,wires have to be connected initially for mtkflash to recognise drive in dos , but after it has been recognised then sometimes mtkflash will recognise drive with wires disconnected after xbox is turned off then on again , very temperemental , i`ve tried various combinations, i get status 0, status 51 and status 80, i did however managed to get into writing mode only once but it froze saying updating 00% , luckily drive still works fine obviously not flashed succesfully though, this is getting very starnge

Exactly the same here, drive is dated May 2006 pc bios won't recognise dvd on sata unless wires are connected.

Hello all,

I am having the same issues. I did the resistor mod with switch but will not work with wires disconnected upon bootup as DVD drive isn't recognised. The Green led on the front of the Xbox360 flashes green.

What is the solution to this issue? Tried booting up and waiting, then hitting command in dos. no go.

Any help much appreciated!

Perhaps all of us with problems should list our hardware.
I'm booting from 2gb usb pen drive and my motherboard is a Asus P5P800 (ICH5) with 2 sata connectors (i've tried both)

Asus Motherboard A7V8X-X with a PCI to SATA controller card. VIA 6421 chipset. I am booting off a floppy choosing option 2 as "via6421 primary master" I have diasbled every other drive except hard drive.

I acquired the MTKFLASH off xbins from a rar file called "Toshiba-Samsung_360_Auto_Flasher_v3.rar". Inside that there is a firmware folder, then a via folder, I used that as it is expecially for via chipsets.

I did the resistor mod with switch but will not work with wires disconnected upon bootup as DVD drive isn't recognised. The Green led on the front of the Xbox360 flashes green.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Worked fine for me.
Try this:-
Boot with power connected, wires disconnected, SATA disconnected
When ready to read firmware, connect SATA, connect wires, read
Use your favourite method of copying the drive key (X360SAM, hexedit, etc.)
Shut down, disconnect wires, disconnect SATA
Boot with power connected, wires disconnected, SATA disconnected
When ready to write firmware, connect SATA, connect wires, write
